shepard tried to make a point to walk around the neighborhood daily - just as a way to repeatedly familiarize herself with the twist and turns, the lefts and rights. it was also a way to keep her mind busy. this place was so uneventful compared to where she used to reside that it wasn’t uncommon for the soldier to find herself thinking back to the memories that usually terrorized her thoughts when she had nothing better to do. shepard rounded a corner and snapped back into the real world when she saw the frantic young girl. she scrunched her brows before she began to take slow, steady steps towards her. “you’re looking for a carl?? i know a carl. not sure if it’s the same one you’re talking about.” 

“i’d tell you to prove it, but i don’t feel like being traumatized today.”

“alright. i won’t hug you.. today.” 

“I might have. I don’t really keep track of all the people I meet here.”

      ‘’england?’’ shock and confusion only the first few of emotions that crossed his features as he stared at her, trying to understand what had just been said. there was a long pause before max dared to speak again. ‘’how did i get here?’’

shepard had come along a lot of flustered new residents of stonefield. it was almost a daily occurrence. the spectre was usually the one to break the news to them. she just stood there, waiting for his wave of emotions to simmer down and for him to ask the million dollar question. “i don’t know - i don’t even know how i got to this place. people just appear here.”

“it’s been awhile since i absolutely CREAMED someone. gotta play catch up, y’know?”

"you should lower your expectations. you might get a couple good punches in, but i don’t think you’re gonna catch up anytime soon.”

“don’t, can’t, same damn thing. what were you tryin’ to do, kill a man?”

"okay, okay - i get it. i’m a bad dancer.”

“I know what you mean -  I don’t think there’s much we can do about it, though.”

“Sorry, she’s teething and well she’s not exactly her happiest at the moment.” Said Carl, as he gently held Judith and tried to get her to stop crying. 

“It’s alright.” A reassuring smile went along with her words. Shepard looked down at the baby. “What’s her name? I don’t think I caught it the last time I saw her.”
