1. r scott gemmill reframed the ambulance bay scene in the finale to reflect that langdonmel have definitely crossed the threshold from a mentor-mentee relationship to becoming equals, not just equals but definitively friends. they share their joys and sorrows with each other without the pressure of having one be solved or the other be put on a pedestal, it’s just a reflection of the long day they both have had

2. tdeardz wants langdonmel to stay friends because if they push further than that, it could end. and she and pball do not want the langdonmel dynamic to fizzle out the way quick romances do.

and i understand that, i really do. i think maybe what they don’t realize or maybe it’s not communicated to them by the interviewers or anyone really (not that anyone has to) is that what draws most of us viewers to their dynamic is the fact that it’s both slow and quick at the same time. it’s quick in the sense that there’s this instant chemistry, that they’ve managed to connect in such a short amount of time, but it’s also sweetly slow in that we know there’s still so much potential to scale up. what draws viewers in is always the thrill of the chase, the possibility of a friends to lovers dynamic, but because of what the canon has established especially in the finale (confirmed by r scott gemmill) is that they can never revert to anything below friendship anymore.

as i’ve said before, they either have to maintain the momentum (which is what pdeardz want, “to keep a lifelong friendship”), until they peak at a certain level and they have to take the relationship into a romantic one or just hit a wall and stay friends and that’s it. but it can never ever be reduced to anything else below best friends or soulmates because 2 shifts with each other, not even fully together, and they’re already acting like that. what more when they get to spend those next 4 months everyday nonstop

and also i do think it’s even more romantic, even if she probably didn’t mean to make it sound that way, to not want to get too close to the flame in case it burns you but to comfortably sit with the hearth because of the constant warmth you both can give each other. sure, i get that. u don’t want to lose him so u just won’t risk it. but that lifelong friendship can become a lifelong romance too if u play it right. many of the best relationships start from friendships but i digress because that’s not the point i’m trying to make with this observation

what’s really funny to me actually is that not once has it been brought up in this interview specifically that the reason they cannot cross that threshold from friends to lovers is because langdon is married
