So, we will have a Season 4, based on Queen of the Damned and... this could be a problem about Akasha.
Akasha was already miscast, she was from Sumer so from Middle East and not a black woman but I can accept like an hommage to Aaliyah. In the only episode in which she appeared she spoke a name: Amel.
AMEL. Who is Amel?
Accord to Anne Rice's PLatRoA Amel was a ghost. When he was alive he was a man from North Pole who was kidnapped by the alien and genetically modified. He was sent back to the Earth to "collect human pain", he rebelled and found Atalntaya. Atlantaya was destroyd by the same aliens and Amel died, his body was destroyed and his spirit was so damaged that he forgot everything for millennials.
Amel the thought he was a spirit ( in this lore ghosts were human and spirit... were not human ) and "helped" the twins.
He drank the blood of Akasha and he "enetered" into her, enslaved her, controlling her mind, her body and her spirit, Akasha since minute 1 was his slave.
A black woman, enslaved totally by a white ghost... ghosh
Is Akasha a feminist icon?
She could be, she had the ingredients BUT she is not, quite the opposite, Akasha is a misogynist woman who hates other women and envyies man because she cannot be "strong" like a man.
She ordred that the twins were rape, and by her own husband! Enkil who was very in love with her refused and "pass" this assignement to Khayman, who did it. And she watched it, enjoying every seconds.
Then she ordred the mutilations, Maharet's eyes and Mekare's tongue, and their imprisonment.

When Nebaum, who was sent to Egypt as a sex slave for her, fell in love with Sevraine and broke the rules Akasha is so pissed that she caused the first great separation among the vampires. Because her lover didn't love her back and chose another women.
Akasha's big plan was never about women power. She destroyed mostly man 'cause she tought women were weaker than men, a man could fight her, a man could won over her, a women no.
So she was never "men are a menace, long live women" but "women are too weak and too stupid to oppose me, better destroying men". And she was killed by a woman, with a rock
For this reason she is a complex charcter she is not a "girl power" character or a "women are better than men" charcater, she is more like a "me power" and a " i am better than anyone" and I hope they treat her weel, never cancelling her faults and her defects
I hope everyone who heavily pushed the ‘Daniel will be recast/body swapped’ and ‘Eric is leaving the show’ agenda feel a bit different now that Eric has literally said this show gave him ‘a reason to live again’

I would also like to point out how amusing it is that Marius chose to put his VL merch pin in the middle of his neck tie like an amulet, and not as his jacket lapel, because Marius spent the formulative years of his life with no jackets or lapels, just toga pins and amulets.
Apparently, Marius is just an endless source of humor for me, I guess. That season finale really fucked my brain into a plate of scrambled eggs.

The saddest is that he has any cultural instruments to understand how deeply trauamtized he is.
During Renaissance 12 years old boy were man: man who went to battle who married and become parents, and childhood was not considerate as a separate part of life, a child was only a "potential man".
Armand knows that he suffered something very wrong BUT he has not the cultural instruments to understand that that was wrong because he was a child/pre-teen.
It's like explain a Russian nobleman in the 1800s that peasant people are people like him, he will nod but he cannot understand 'cause he was teached that peasant are not like hime.
Armand is the same, and this is the horror of his life, understand something but never comprended fully

I would like to express how fucking funny Marius was to me at Lestat's dream "concert" for his past victims, the way he sat there quietly with this indulgent, slightly condescending smile on his face, as though he were looking at a particularly ambitious school project. This is Marius, every moment of his life. Christopher Heyerdahl's got it nailed down.

I hate to say it but a lot of the critiques I have seen of TVL lately can literally be summed up as "I don't understand gothic literature, I want this show to be heated rivalry but with vampires and literally give zero fucks about queer men's trauma being represented because it doesn't get me off"
I remember watching season 1 of iwtv and talking about it to my therapist. At the time I had recently told her about an exploitative online relationship I had been in, and I related so much to Louis’ rationalization of abuse in that season. In season 2 I interpreted Louis and Lestat’s final scene not as forgiveness in its entirety but grief and trauma bonding. This showed that Louis had a pattern of forgiving abuse just to keep living. That was his life.
Do you know why Lestat’s actions feel so much worse than Louis’ in season 1? Cuz Louis actually shows remorse and hates what he is doing. It literally haunts him. Instead of showing Lestat’s own possible remorse or guilt for his abuse, tvl makes him out to be primarily a victim. Why not show Lestat’s backstory and time in New Orleans as parallels? I hear so much about how inaccurate Louis’ accounts of things are and yet we never actually see Lestat’s pov. So much filler this season it’s insane.
Lestat has not the cultural instruments to deeply understand his trauma. He's born in 1760, Illumnism, where it was cleare children were not " little adults" like in the Renaissance, but they were like white canvas. Then at 12 they were adults.
Louis is born during Positivism, where there is clear to everyone that are are childhood, adulthood and something-in-between, when Psychoanalysis is born, he had the cultural instruments to understand his tramas and "solve them"
Historical context is everything in a series like that, they are "mentally struck" in their period and this is very clear
