Founded on April 24, 1791 by the vicar Juan Crisóstomo Gómez and by José Loriente, Santo Tomás de Aquino became the last of the missions to be abandoned in 1849. The fragmented sections of standing walls of this mission, located in a beautiful valley 70 kilometers south of Ensenada, give testimony of what was a building that in 1850, after the departure of the Dominicans, was used as the military garrison of the border. To Santo Domingo, the Rosary, San Vicente or Santo Tomas, it is enough to see its ruins, to give an idea of how hazardous it was for those missionaries to take root in such rugged regions, and insufficient economic resources. #missionarywine #dharmaexpeditions #dominicanorder #ensenada #chocolatelab #travelerdog #nomadlife #mexicanvanlife #mexicodesconocido #climbinglabs #bajaclimberssociety #exploremexico (at Ensenada, Baja California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs8xV0XAKkL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1gks8kyevav4c
