I think part of this shift does come from, in part, Secret of the Mimic. Because prior to that a lot of people exercised the stance of Sun & Moon's relation to each other being either "they're split personality" or "they're brothers", even if that assessment wasnt solely based on the actual source material. So if anyone actually tried doing that during the time, it would've been looked at like either incest shipping or ... I guess similar to sancest but with the DCA instead? I'm hoping that makes sense.
But when Sotm dropped, it introduced using the image of Sun and Moon as representations for the main married couple focused in. In turn kind of forcing a lot of the parties that oporated under that perspective to effectively detox and reassess these perceptions of these characters & in turn, their perspectives of those who shipped them.
Which honestly I do agree with OP that this has been a net positive bc people are in fact less likely to bite each others heads off over it, because people's reads have been since changed.

Today, our home has been destroyed, and we are living in a damaged tent after long months of displacement, fear, hunger, and loss.
My daughters spend their days standing in long lines for water and bread instead of living their childhood ๐ฅบ My husband was also injured while trying to bring food for us during the famine.
