Was thankfully able to salvage most of my little protein cleanup crew.. this group of Assassin snails are from a batch I specifically picked out before I started cleaning out the substrate from the 60 gallon. But a lot of their friends survived in the sand, buckets of water, hardscape and substrate. I tried so hard to save who I could... RIP anyone I missed.

Welp....... it happened again.
I keep talking about wanting to get the bichirs something bigger, but I really wanted to wait for a good deal on 90+ gallons. Alas, the universe had other plans...
J messaged me while I was at work...
So with nowhere but buckets to put the bichirs and ctenopoma in, I decided to just bite it and go get a new aquarium, since it would take longer to clean this one and patch it up.
Luckily Petsmart had a decent deal today on a 75gallon with cover, stand, and lights. It's deeper instead of taller, so I think the bichirs are gonna like the extra footprint space. And it'll be nice being able to reach in without a stool.
NOW FOR THE REAL CHALLENGE...
I've tasked myself with spray painting the back and pond foaming the background, all tonight... so that it's ready for water and fish by tomorrow night or Wednesday.
We have so many buckets that I was able to save more than half the water, along with the sand and hardscape, so hopefully that'll be enough biostuff saved to make them comfy in their new home.

Finally got these three ladies a man. Pearl Gourami (Trichopodus leerii). He's just a lil guy and has some growing to do, but I'm excited to finally have a dude in the school!
Also got more petricola babies. Now up to 4 with those guys, but they're hard to get photos of in their nursery tank cause they have too many places to hide.

Started this lil project last night. Cleaned up two small tanks I haf in storage yesterday. Husband said to just throw this one away since it's plastic and a little scuffed... but no, I still have pond foam and a ton of rock to play with. Keeping the smaller 3ish gallon for an emergency hospital tank since I threw shrimp in the 5gal that used to serve that purpose.
Crushed some black volcanic rock and sprinkled it into the pond foam as i went. Pond foamed around a little plastic drawer organizer for a small background cave. Plan on using white aragonite sand and rough aragonite pieces for final decor. Want to run the ph higher and move my two baby petricolas in here for now while I convert a (or maybe buy another...) larger tank into a more cichlid-style setup for them.
This makes me miss Julia. Gosh darn rottweiler.

Woulda been a Figure 8 Puffer if the place selling them hadn't been honest and pulled them from being sold due to ich... Sigh. Another time.

Was gonna put the red rili shrimps with Mr. Frowny Face, but uh... he immediately started attacking them through the bag. Had my last betta with some red cherries and they got along well, but Mr. Frowny Face is a lil more spicy.... so I'll be putting them in the 5gal alone for now until they start populating, then I really am hoping to move some to my 20gal long. Sold me a bag of 10, but I see several tiny babies in there too, so hopefully I can get a nice colony going!
Despite losing my wallet (fyck), twas a great day.

Currently acclimating the Leopard Ctenopoma (ctenopoma acutirostre) to his new home with the bichirs... def been an overdue move. He got a bit more aggressive towards the Pearl Gourami over the past couple of months. Hopefully he settles in well with his new roommates, who are likely too big (and too blind and derpy) to be bullied by him.

I've settled on calling him a boy due to his (kinda prominent?) gill spikes... at least I read the boys have those more? Idk. Could be a sassy lady still. Gonna eventually give him a male name anyway til he tells me otherwise.

Cave fish time!!
Cryptotora thamicola or the waterfall climbing cave fish are extremely rare, found in only eight caves on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Like most cave fish they are blind and pigmentless but what makes them special is there ability to cling to walls and climb up flowing water.
20 years ago, everyone thought I was gonna do something with my art and/or writing.
Young me felt that was too competitive a path, and straight up just didn't want to do that for a living. Art was for pleasure and relaxing in my mind, and my muses only work when they want to. Not a good combo for money making.
Thank gawd I got in veterinary. Neither pandemics nor robots can keep us from working, and even though it is "hard" work, we love it. Good luck replacing us with robots anytime soon.
