Hot take: a Super Metroid remake could kill the Metroid franchise for good (or almost)
Ok so. Super Metroid is considered to be one of the best games of all time ecc. No matter how good the remake will be, no matter what will be changed for the best. People will still complain because it won't be like the original. And I absolutely disagree with this take, but negativity is always more loud (as we've seen with Prime 4)
Let's face it, things like machball, reverse boss order, gravity jump, ecc... Won't be kept. The game won't be as enjoyable to speed runners. It won't be as enjoyable to poser chuds that only know the game's reputation (a big chunk of consumers).
The backlash from Prime 4 was HUGE, and Nintendo surely didn't like that. I feel like now mostly all the focus on Metroid will be on the 2d side (seeing Dread's success) and if a 2d Metroid also bombs hard like Beyond, the franchise will be in SEVERE danger.
The main problem is the fact it would be a remake of a game considered to be timeless, irreplaceable, and genre-making. The heavy backlash, no matter what, will be INEVITABLE, and LOUD.
(I myself though would love so much a Super Metroid remake in Dread's engine, it would be sooooooo amazing)
