Summer 2013

It is crazy to me how it take one moment, one single event or series of events to realize that what we thought may be nothing, maybe even meaningless might also be everything in our lives. Today was one of those day where I can truly say that the events lead me to believe that there is something so much more powerful than the human race. In the face of triumph my roommate and i have become closer than ever. I have realized the power of the human spirit. Our ability to connect and learn from one another is often more profound than what actually happens and the result of those actions/events. Once again, this is proof that everything is nothing, with a twist and life is about the journey, not the desitination.

Also, I have never been more affirmed in love. The kind that has the ability to break you or make you weak at the knees. I love you and appreciate you always believing in me. You make me the best version of myself, even when I question how proud of that self I should be. You have my heart, and always will.

Today I attended a session about women in leadership. When I walked into the room I was skeptical, but the room was packed with attendees. Feeling unsure but comforted at the ease of blending in, I found a seat. The presentation began and we were asked to identify our goal for the session. 

"Wow," I thought to myself, "I don't have a goal. This was just the only session that seemed relavent". I still had no idea what to e spect but I said my goal was to learn a tip to develop perspective. 

The session continued. During this time two things resonated with me. The first was the concept of six bricks. This was explained in relation to support systems for our professional development plan. So let's say we are looking at a house. It's made of bricks. We represent on brick. Each brick touches six other brisk for support in its place inherent house. Who are your six bricks?i started to think of the six people I feel like I can rely on, and I didn't noticed how many of hem were male until a women mentioned all of hers were male. What does that say about women in leadership. 

I am so thankful for my six bricks. Oddly enough they are a vary diverse group. Each strong in their own way, but because of this I am affirmed in my goal to be one of those strong women leaders, to serve as a mentor and example for those that come after me. I want to touch as many bricks as possible. 

The seconde major take-away from this session was termed the "One-Word Resolution". This is a commitment to embody one word in all that you do. For example, strength. You then spend the year challenging yourself to embody strength is all you do, your professional and personal life and everything in between. I am going to adopt this in my life. I am not a very emotional person. This sometimes makes it hard for me to put aside logic in the face of emotional circumstances and relate to others; therefore, my one word resolution is going to be compassion.
