I've kind of let this thing go. I'm glad I did it for as long as I did, but I don't think I'll be writing on a strict schedule anymore.

I dunno! Here's a short musical idea that came out of me tonight. Might go somewhere with it, might not. Obviously heavily inspired by Steve Reich. Click the title for the mp3.

I probably won't have time to write any music this weekend. I feel bad about it, but schoolwork is pretty important.

Finished the song I'd been working on. Now it reveals itself a little more deliberately. If the embedded player is a little funky for you, here's the link to the MP3. 

I'm changing this exercise up a little bit. I think if I resolve to write at least one (possibly short or underwhelming) song a week (rather than two bars a day), it'll be more productive in itself and it'll also allow me to be more productive in other areas of my life. So that's what I'll be doing.  I think it's a smart improvement on my routine rather than an admission of defeat in any way. I do lose the rigid discipline of working on music every day, but I really believe this is for the best.

This isn't a cop out, and it's not a joke either. It's just a highly conceptual idea I had a few weeks ago, emulated imperfectly by Reason. This piece should really be performed by a live musician. It's titled "64 Different Notes", and it's a meditation on time-based media. Click the title for the mp3. I'll eventually get back to working on the thing I posted yesterday. Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if John Cage already did this decades ago.

This is something I made to demonstrate the iPad (and iPod/iPhone) app ThumbJam for a feature I'm writing for Padvance.com. Just improvising for a few minutes. Very fun app. Click the title for the MP3.
