‘Uugh…. uarGH! V! We don’t have time! And by we, I mean you, YOU do not have time for baby sitting! It’s a little late to be fostering an instinct to care for offspring when you’ve SEVERED THAT PART OF YOURSELF!!!-’ Frustration drives the familiar out of him, shifting particles of black that moves, ricochets, until flying right out of the van’s open door. The moment it seemed Nero was going to yield, the moment Griffon decided he wanted no part of it. All the better, in reality, when it is difficult enough to seam together something tangibly acceptable in the way of… just such fostering. Just such instinct. That is, of course, a hope that it is instinct at all, and not merely, solely the desperation of securing this lifeline already missing components of himself- What is he doing?

 “I simply assumed he meant everything to you.” Carried each other’s scent, no matter the time spent parted. Had Nero’s contacts at the top of his list. Dante isn’t difficult to read in understanding who he loves, after all. V only visually takes into account the contents of the first-aid kit. …swiftly coming to the all too dragging realization that he does not recall how to go about treatment. Not fully, anyway. One box is turned over, then put down. Another is picked up, then put down once more - it is only when looking at the packaging of the ointment that instructions were found. The silence between them practically null, along with the tension, once V began to read-walk himself through this ordeal. First, to wash his hands… …well, maybe he should wash them, then grab a clean cloth? Yes, Nero has to be washed too, then, of course. An ounce of oil is used for good measure, but, wait, can this oil be used with soap? Effectively? …What he would give to trade places with Dante. For different reasons.

“…ah,” the cane is put aside. Stiffly so, V manages to walk over to him. Beginning with his forearm, down to his wrist, hand, fingers. Folding the cloth over for each new portion until it too must be thrown in the sink to be rinsed and washed itself. Asides from the blatant confusion, uncertainty, what awkwardness were there feels now a thing of the past. “Um…” right, ointment first, after washing, then gauze, then securing. “Would be best to roll your sleeve down after its bandaged…” this is… abruptly becoming familiar, unfortunately. Dabbing little cuts and brush-burns clean. Pressing as firm as his meager body can muster to knead into wounds. The memory spurns any smile in lieu to something of a deep ache.

“Uh-huh...” The words are a little closer to the truth than Nero would be happy admitting before near enough a stranger--even if said stranger has long already known it, with or without those words coming out of Nero’s mouth. He’s certain his face doesn’t aid the futility of that particular secrecy, already feeling it twitch in all the places that will betray him most; where his brows knit, or his lips thin to a firm-pressed line, or his narrowing eyes following V’s hands; through...clumsy efforts of rifling for things he doesn’t seem to be entirely sure of, for things he doesn’t seem to entirely understand. Must not be too familiar with what to do with human wounds--though Nero has never doubted that this man isn’t quite human. Or at least that maybe he wasn’t, once. For all V’s stumbling fragility, it does little to disguise from the parts of him that are unusual, strange, off.

V makes the effort regardless. Driven either by compassion or by simple obligation (perhaps something more cynical, selfish), the fellow roots around enough to find the few things they have on hand that could prove any use--ointment, antiseptic, bandages. Almost quirks a smile on Nero’s lips to watch him fumble with them as if alien, as if hereto unseen. For all Nero knows, maybe they are to him.

“Kinda what happens when someone’s all you got.” No harm in admitting it when V already seems to take that for granted. Nero sinks back in his seat, reluctant but compliant, the wounds on his remaining hand and arm offered up as V comes to his aid--from bites, to claw marks, to burns from the asphalt. Small, silly wounds, hardly worth the time it will take to treat them. But here they are. And here V is, tending with an awkwardness to each and every one that doesn’t quite distract Nero from the gnawing, nagging wonders eating him away. “But how did you figure that out, anyway? Must’ve known something about it, if you figured you could count on me to come lend a hand fresh off a hospital bed. Right?

Looking to meet the other man’s gaze, even when those spring-green eyes stay undauntedly trained on the menagerie of little wounds winding down Nero’s arm. Dabbing, cleaning, salving. Nothing that very much salves what really stings.

“You know a Hell of a lot more about all this than you’re letting on, dontcha, V...?” Not much of a question so much as just something the two of them already know. Not much that V will ever elaborate on, Nero is sure, to his chagrin as much as it is to his burning curiosity. The ointment stings in his wounds, a burn worse than the wounds themselves, his storm-blue eyes following V’s thin hands as they swab and dab and patch and cover. A sigh takes all the breath out of him, shoulders slumping at that uncertain request that Nero feels obliged to honour.

MEDIC :  for one muse to show up at the other’s doorstep injured.

It is… uncomfortable, set within this position where no strangeness may be soothed with the talk of his brother. The blood, the scent - familiar. Wretchedly familiar. Staining the elder’s nostrils where full-hearted instinct begins to writhe. No doubting this look therein the child’s eyes, knowing this too to be familiar. Perhaps dauntingly so, being that his idol is nowhere present to aid him. In truth, there needn’t be any words, greetings. No acknowledgement sans that drawl onward of a low groan. Side-stepping to let him in, the all too familiar ring of a few choice words as one hand scarcely grazes the space between Nero’s shoulders: “Dante isn’t here right now. So allow me instead to remind you that he… would loathe to see you tend to this yourself,” The door is locked, the sign is turned: CLOSED.

Assuming it were a bad mission, but asking nothing of it. Only leading the boy to the bathroom he is already familiar with. To ransack a cabinet he is already familiar with, though this time there needn’t be a reading of the labels. Vergil remembers, just as he read them before. “Show me how bad it is.”

Not quite the face at the door that Nero was expecting. Darkening the doorway is another man altogether, vaguely acknowledged as a father the same as Nero is only vaguely acknowledged as a son--and the strange, off-putting air between them as ever is far from any welcome home that Nero cares to enjoy. Something seems different, though--the smattering of wounds and the well-soaked, blood-wet of Nero’s clothes perhaps taking another toll entirely when Vergil isn’t the one that put them there (makes Nero laugh bitterly, feeling his guts ache where Yamato had been plunged through them, feeling his arm still throb with phantom pain below the elbow.) The man steps aside. Dares, boldly, to touch Nero between the shoulders in a graze that is scarce, but felt, that makes something twist in Nero’s chest as he skulks past the threshold. Eyes down, voice like a sword hissing out of its sheathe, a dry sarcasm in its hollows. “What, my old man decided he gives a shit since the last time I saw him? Well, there’s a turnout for the books...no offence and all, but I figured you’d have some stuck-up spiel to give me instead of a helping hand.”

Maybe time to sit on the thought of a son has softened his father’s edges some--now wouldn’t that be a funny thought? Or maybe he’s more troubled about the kind of ass-kicking that will follow if Dante happens to come back to Nero’s wounds untreated. Either idea is, indeed, funny, lightness in a situation that probably doesn’t seem funny at all to Vergil. But obediently, Nero follows through into the cold, sterile light of the bathroom (pretending blood is not tracking behind him.)

“Well, in any case, you can relax. Got home in one piece, didn’t I?” A long sigh, Red Queen propped to the side of the tub, the blue of his coat shrugged out of and set there with her as he takes stock of himself in the mirror. He looks like Hell, but he’s for sure looked (and felt) worse.

His head turns from his own weary double to where his father rifles in the cabinets, and of all things, it’s that to take Nero a little by surprise--the view familiar, the scene harkening to one watched in a situation not so long past, not so different. When Vergil was someone else that Nero had doubted just as much, but let him fumble with the unfamiliarity of healing his wounds. Let him rinse and mend and make them better.

“...” Maybe the idea isn’t so outlandish after all. Given pause with that thought, Nero relents, peeling up the shirt and sweater sticking wetly to his flank, hissing with it as it pulls on the red, open wounds carving his waist all the way up to the ribs. Ugly, not awfully deep, or awfully bad--just stings like a bitch.

“That isn’t what I’m saying –” though it must have sounded like it, given their expression. V brushes his hair back, frustration a little mounting, “Can we start over?”

fights honorably /  fights dirty  (He fights with whatever tactics he requires to get the job done, but generally fights fair and does not employ underhanded tactics when going toe to toe with someone on his level.)

He is used to being the first line of defence for The Order and disposing of a victim as quickly as possible. This carries over to his work as a devil hunter, albeit again, like his uncle, he plays more with his targets a lot more often than he used to.)

is provoked easily  /  provokes their opponent /  teases (Nero is exceptionally easy to rile up due to his quick temper, but likewise is exceptionally quick to provoke and tease the opponent.)

gets visibly frustrated  /  shouts while attacking (Quick tempered and vocal, something that has never changed about Nero.)

uses strategy /  focuses on the battle  /  experiences conflicting thoughts during battle (Nero does not generally focus heavily on strategy and tact unless it is specifically required to bring an enemy down. He is a bruiser that relies on raw strength and skill, unless he encounters an enemy that needs more finesse.)

rushes in recklessly  / tries to read their opponent before engaging (Depending on his emotional state at the time especially, he might rush in without thinking, though he usually bides his time a little before provoking the start to combat.)

fights wildly /  fights calmly  /  fights apathetically /  fights with anger  /  fights with excitement (Again, all significantly dependent on his state of mind, though Nero is an emotionally driven individual, and that translates to his fighting style.)

fights without regard to wounds  /  runs away when wounded  /  hides wounds  / takes a blow to protect another (Nero is selfless to a fault and likewise does not take great consideration to his own condition, willing to fight till his last breath if he has to, choosing to forgo taking care of his wounds to soldier on until he is forced to recognise their severity.)

prefers a blade  /  prefers a gun  /  prefers hand to hand combat  /  prefers a bow  /  prefers a shield  /  prefers a personalized weapon  /  prefers magic alchemy or spells (Nero uses both a sword and a gun, and both had to be modified to keep up with him in combat and to specifically dispatch demons. He modified them both by himself as a teenager.)

messy fighter  /  elegant fighter (Elegant in his own right, but can get messy and brutish when in a tough spot. And makes a huge mess too lmao.)

compliments their opponent / insults their opponent (Usually his compliments are backhanded.)

uses unnecessary movements  /  moves efficiently  /  barely moves (He likes to show off as much as he likes to get the job done!)

prefers to dodge / prefers to block (it’s easier to dodge than it is to meet the target head on and cut off his long range avenues of attack.)

defends their blindside  /  has no blindside  /  leaves blindsides vulnerable (he was taught to protect his blind spots as a Knight. This is less of a problem now he has his wings as additional weapons to cover his back.)
