He'll plink at a few keys, seemingly at random while he hums to himself. His deep voice is an instrument of its own. It contrasts nicely with the high melodic notes of the piano.

When he's on to something, he'll strike several keys at once and begin singing in earnest. Just one or two lines. Over and over, fine tuning it to perfection.

When he finally finds what he's looking for, Lucifer starts from the top and launches into a full performance. His fingers effortlessly glide over the piano. He stops vocalizing and lets the piano sing for itself, filling the house with a beautiful cadence for all of thirty glorious seconds until he hits a key that sounds slightly off.

You haven’t been paying attention to the teacher for half an hour.

To be fair, it’s hard to focus when someone keeps burning a hole into the back of your head.

You were so close to falling asleep—until the sensation arrived.

A gaze. Heavy. Like it was drilling straight through your skull. Your whole body jerked with a shudder, and you went still, your heartbeat suddenly loud.

You didn’t know who it was.

It could be a demon who wanted to kill you out of jealousy? Or a demon who wanted you for lunch?

Either way, you refused to turn around. Absolutely not.

Instead, you busied yourself. Writing colorful notes. Drawing cat doodles. Daydreaming. Anything to stop your brain from catastrophizing.

You even started planning your last words.

If you got cornered in the halls and someone tried to stab you—would you call one of the seven brothers?

Mammon. Probably Mammon. He’s a decent protector, assuming he’s in the mood to be useful.

You also considered running out the classroom the second the bell rang. Then reality reminded you that you would not outrun a demon.

Okay. Maybe you could take a peek at who you’d be running away from.

A quick look. A safe glance.

You tilted your head carefully, eyes landing on a certain white-haired man.

The demon staring at you—now that you knew the identity of—immediately jerked his head away, nearly knocking himself out of his chair.

Heat spread over his neck and up his face, blooming into an pink flush.

“...Mammon? Are you okay?” You blinked.

In your mind, it was kind of a cute reaction. At least you knew you weren’t dying today.

So long for calling Mammon to save you.
