"Hey Crasher. Is this how yous spell your name with whatever the hell alphabet yous got?"

"I have enough trouble reading regular words. Names are just extra difficult to figure out..."

“Hatty, I picked yous up something while I was away. I thought it was looked nice.”

“Maybe yous can hang it in your room or somethin’.”

“Awwwww! Thank you so much Impy! I’ll put it right above my bed! First, I have to repay you with the best gift ever! Here it comes I hope you are ready for it!”

"Oh! I also came across this."

Impmon tilted its head confused. Maybe it didn’t explain things right? This was the first time it tried teaching anyone anything, so maybe. “No. I mean like this.” It held up a hand and at the top of one of its fingers was a very small spark of flame. It then took the board and began gliding the flame over the board as if it was finger-painting.

“Here.” it flipped the board over to show Edwin a string of odd looking symbols.

“I meant to just practice writing using fire and small things. Not scorch the whole damn alphabet in one go from over ten feet away. That’d be an insane thing to ask for right off the bat.” it paused and thought for a moment. “We could try and work up to that though.”

“Oh! I thought you meant - well now I just feel silly.” Edwin responded, flushing with embarrassment. Of course they hadn’t meant burning the whole alphabet from a distance - who would expect that of somebody whose expertise extended only to making fist-sized balls of fire?

Perhaps he needed to sleep more than he did…

“That’s definitely something I could try - and it sounds much more feasible than etching he whole alphabet at once…” Edwin chuckled, hoping Impmon didn’t catch how embarrassed he was, but knowing that it was probably obvious. He let out a breath - partly to calm himself down, and partly to get himself to concentrate. A fire at one fingertip was the same principle as a fireball in his hand - just smaller and held in a different place. Easy. Or… it should be.

Calm, controlled. His fire was affected by his emotions, so getting panicked wouldn’t help anything. Summoning a fireball in his hand was easy - getting it the right size was a bit harder, but still doable. He focused on it, focused on not choking the fire out, but whittling it down - smaller, smaller, as small as he could manage- Which admittedly wasn’t as small as the little spark Impmon had. Edwin’s was perhaps a touch smaller than a golf ball, which, to be fair, was as small as he’d managed to make it.

“Hm. I need to work on fireball size too, I think…” He muttered, before taking the board himself. “Alright - lets see how I do.” Edwin was nervous - he’d never done anything fine with his fire before - control with his ‘normal’ fireballs was fine enough; he used the stuff frequently while baking, but fine control? Real control beyond ‘big’ or ‘snuffed out’? Never. Slowly, Edwin etched a trio of letters beneath Impmon’s. they were quite a bit larger in size, owing mostly to the size of the fire Edwin had, and were quite wobbly - due to his clear unfamiliarity with holding a fire at his fingertips rather than in his palm, and the dark marks looked like they would have preferred being a blaze rather than etched letters. But they were readable, at least.

Impmon watched as he tried making his fireball as small as he could. “That's alright,” it replied when he couldn't get it any smaller, “Yous can work up to more detailed stuff. Just keep do what ya can and keep practicing.” Its tail was wagging some as it watched him write. While nice looking work and controlled marks was the desired result, the imp wanted to be helpful and encouraging no matter what skill level Edwin was at. The fact that it can be helpful to someone really made the imp happy.

Demon was a pretty accurate description for the little digimon that had been humming to itself. Spade tail, large ears that could possibly be mistaken for horns, and the fact it was literally classified as a ‘small devil’ digimon along with the likes of DemiDevimon. Though between Impmon and a DemiDevimon, Impmon definitely looked more devil like.

The imp froze in place when it heard someone speak, save for its ears. Large purple ears were tall and alert as they pivoted back to the direction of the sound. After the short instinctive panic to run, Impmon’s let out a sigh once it realized it was Edwin that had found it.

“Not really,” the digimon answered, not moving from its spot. It had however gone back to working on whatever it was it had planed. Looked like the imp was breaking down the boxes and pilings up the loose boards. “Yous are trying to get control not power. And the only way I can think to do that is doing a bunch of intricate tedious stuff. So…”

Impmon picked up one of the boards and turned some to look at Edwin with a rather impish grin. “How’s ‘bout yous try charring the alphabet into the boards without setting the whole thing on fire? Or some little artsy patterns. Or what ever the hell yous want really.”

Oops - he had scared Impmon. Even if only a little, he could see the flinch. At least they didn’t seem to have been scared too badly, since they didn’t run, or yell, or attack.

Not to self, don’t sneak up on people, even unintentionally.

“Wait, you want me to…” His expression became a bit frustrated beneath his smile, sighing as he lifted a hand. “You do realize that this-” a fireball came to life in the cupped palm “is the most ‘intricate’ I’ve ever been, right? The most you’ll get out of me for a while is just… ‘vague explosion shape’.” Back home, he’d learned magical theory, but not how to control it. What point was there in learning how to control something he couldn’t use, after all?

He was beginning to really hate his parents.

Impmon stayed next to Hatty holding her hand. It was a tad paranoid that the kid in the mask would show up again and try something. When the bird spoke the imp's ears twitched some, but it didn't reply. Not directly to him anyway.

Impmon was looking over a rocky spot on the island near the water. This spot of ocean front didn’t look to have any possible spectators so the imp was gathering a pile of supplies there. Buckets of water, scrap wooden boxes, rope and nets, and other things that wouldn’t go missed. But now that it had stuff to burn, how to set it up in a way that required control?

It hummed as it looked over everything once more. It grabed two boards of different sizes and got an idea. The virus’s tail began wagging as it started to set things up. As it worked Impmon continued to hum, believing no one was around to hear it.

Edwin figured, when he heard the Mafia rambling about some little monster that had been seen around town, that it had been Impmon they’d seen. He had to admit; the little fellow did have the unfortunate luck of being the spitting image of a little demon or… well, imp.

And when he wandered into the spot Impmon had chosen - entirely by accident, mind you, but he wasn’t about to complain - he was surprised to hear the little creature humming.

The imp didn't actually know for certain. Hatty showed the virus that Murder on the Owl Express movie, and had only talked about the other director's films.
