a while ago, one of my mutuals was considering quitting writing. her fics weren’t doing as well, and the algorithm wasn’t favoring her writing like it used to.
so as a collective 10-15 writers, we all reblogged her fic once each. that alone put her writing at the top of the tag.
it makes a difference. way more than you think. it doesn’t matter if people see it because of you, it still gets promoted by the algorithm.
Congratulations to this month's featured follower, @bloglizziekamiya! She's a long time regular who engages with my blog all the time and I love seeing her in my notes.
The OC she asked me to highlight is Maplefrond, a mediator who used to be an enforcer in a group of rogues after being forced into it as a kit. Now he's a patient, kind, and cooperative soul in love with the Clan's healer.
Next month I'll pick another follower! I'll be trying to pick people who reblog and comment so if you're interested in being considered, that's the way to get my attention. Please do not message me or ask to be featured.
i really love the art and writing you're doing for this, and i can't wait to see more!
i have a question. how does the actual clangen gameplay of this all look? when i play, events seem to happen so rapidly that i rarely have a chance to actually write any of it down and retain any of it, so i'm wondering if you have a specific playstyle that helps make the "story" of risingclan easier to write
The real answer is that you just have to slow down. I've found, especially after the Potato Update, this also increases your cats chances of survival.
So when I sit down to take notes (check this post if you're interested in my note taking format), I'll click "Timeskip One Moon" and write down anything notable from the moon events; births and deaths, any serious injuries, naming ceremonies, any new mate pairs or accessories, etc. Sometimes I also check the relationships section for anything interesting, but not usually since there are a lot of cats now and the relationships tab has become overwhelming.
Then I go to my cat list and name any kits, newcomers, or new warriors. I also usually change mentor apprentice pairs to make more sense, like if an apprentice is insecure I pair them with a loving mentor instead of a bloodthirsty one you know? I also make sure that brand new warriors aren't getting apprentices over older cats who've never mentored one.
Then I mediate as many pairs as I am able and go to patrols. I pair the cats up making sure to mix high experience with low experience or pair cats I want to date off so they can bond. If something seems like it would definitely kill someone I skip it. After each patrol, if something interesting happens (say a couple gets a cute romantic interaction or a new cat joins or an apprentice gets hurt) I take a moment to write it down. Repeat until everyone has gone on patrol and then start at the beginning again.
It's pretty simple! Just take your time to make sure you read every notif and then write it down. I honestly started doing this because I realized i was speeding through patrols and I was barely processing anything that happened in my games. So I started writing everything down and got really invested in that clan and thought, man I wanna share it with people! And that gave me the idea to start RisingClan.

so im thinking about starting a blog about roseclan (carnation’s clan!)!! do you have any advice on how to stay motivated and update regularly?
Ooh, thats a tricky one. I've honestly been Surprised at my ability to crank out content for RisingClan. I would probably give the following advice:
Schedule Posts.
I try to be at least three weeks ahead of by current post, with content in my queue so I don't have to remember to post things every day or during prime hours, etc. When you have inspiration, make a lot of content and then schedule it so that you're covered when you don't have the energy.
Get Selfish.
You are posting this stuff online, but really your art should be for you first and foremost! So get selfish with it! If you have a specific oc you wanna write about then do that! Don't worry about making things balanced or varied unless that's fun for you. Find a character and figure out how to get a little obsessed with them and then writing them will be easy. I'm that way with Scorch.
Figure out Your Brain.
If you struggle with Motivation in general, do some research and find ways to hack your brain that work for you. For instance, I have ADHD and depression so it can be tricky for me to get things I need to do done, but I've been working for a very long time to find ways to motivate myself. Share your work with friends for validation, set alarms or write goals for your posts on a sticky note, reward yourself with a treat or some video game time after you fill your queue sufficiently!
and as a side note to people who follow blogs like mine, YOU have the biggest power of all to motivate artists like me to keep making stuff like this and there are three easy steps: Reblog, Follow, Comment.
Your interaction with my posts is the BIGGEST thing that has kept me excited to make RisingClan stuff. Reblogs are so much more satisfying than just likes, so if you like something and want to see more of it, Reblog it! Follows are also exciting, its great to see that number tick upward and it also makes it easier for you to stay updated on the content. and Comments!! Comments are so important! One comment is more powerful than a thousand likes, even if all it says is "I love this!" or "Ooh, they're so cute!"
So yeah. I hope that was helpful haha good luck to any artists taking on a Clan Gen blog, and thanks again to any followers who reblog and comment on my stuff <3
I think there's something that needs to be said about encouraging readers to leave feedback.
For me it's not about "tell me my writing is amazing and stroke my ego"
It's more about "please engage with me so that I can experience your joy secondhand and foster a connection with you"
I understand that not everyone wants this in their reading experience, some people are shy and a million other reasons why maybe someone wouldn't want to engage and that's perfectly fine!
But what I'm trying to steer away from is being a passive content creator with passive consumers. What I want to steer toward is fostering a community that is essential to fandom. I want to see your reactions because it makes me feel like I'm a part of something.
On encouraging reblogs —
I understand that not everyone is comfortable reblogging, especially explicit content. This is ok!
But just consider that the only reason you were able to enjoy a fic or fanart is because someone else shared it, and by not sharing it yourself you are potentially robbing someone else of the opportunity to enjoy it as much as you did.
As OPs our reach only goes so far and this website relies on reblogs in order for anything to truly get seen by a wider audience.
So that's really it! That's why I encourage these two things at the end of every story I post. Not because I'm trying to be demanding and "make people feel bad" if they don't do it.
I know most other social media sites encourage mindless content consumption and that's just the way of the world nowadays, but I am from a time when community was at the heart of fandom and I just don't want to lose that.
But what I'm trying to steer away from is being a passive content creator with passive consumers. What I want to steer toward is fostering a community that is essential to fandom. I want to see your reactions because it makes me feel like I'm a part of something.
Yarrowshade padded just ahead of Pantherhaze through the tall grass on the hill that led up to the thunderpath. As the clan’s best hunters, they had taken to going out together to see how much prey they could catch.
“We’ll make it a game,” Yarrowshade had said with a taunting grin, “a competition. To see who’s better.”
“And I suppose you think you’ll win?” Pantherhaze had raised his brows in amusement in response.
“Um, yeah,” Yarrowshade had replied. “Why would I propose a competition I thought I would lose?”
Pantherhaze had laughed. “Fair point. Well, it sounds like a good way to get everyone fed so… deal. Get ready to lose.”
Now, about a month into their bet, Yarrowshade was behind by about ten catches and he wasn’t going to let that stand so today he had dragged Pantherhaze to the southern border looking for a plentiful hunting ground.
“You’re sure you want to go over the thunderpath?” Pantherhaze asked again, tail twitching slightly with worry.
“Yeah,” he nodded, “Trust me, there’s a bunch of birds and things just over it that don’t expect to get eaten. It’ll be easy pickings.”
“It’ll take more than a good hunting spot to catch up to me,” the other warrior huffed with exertion, watching his paws as he climbed the steepest part of the hill. Yarrowshade paused at the top to look down at him with a smirk.
“Oh, I’m not just going to catch up, Hazey, I’m going to take the lead by thirty fox-lengths!” He puffed up his chest and purred smugly. Pantherhaze jogged the rest of the distance to him and reared to batter his ears with playful strikes. He laughed and swatted back before pulling away to continue leading their little patrol towards the bounty waiting on the other side of the thunderpath.
“You’ve got bees in your brain, Yare,” said Patherhaze fondly as he fell in behind the ginger tabby. They marched through the tall grass in a relaxed manner, the only sound being the reassuring quiet rustle of plants in the breeze and birds somewhere nearby. However, as they slowed to poke their heads out of the sheltering grass, both cats felt their hackles rising at the smell of blood. It wasn’t an uncommon smell on the thunderpath, but it was unsettling nonetheless because it wasn’t the tempting scent of prey blood but the distinct smell of an injured cat. Yarrowshade reared up on his hind legs to look over as much of the thunderpath as he could and spotted a limp ginger body in the middle of the path, a few fox-lengths away.
“Look,” he said and dropped down to start creeping closer.
Pantherhaze bristled anxiously. “W- Careful!”
“I’m being careful,” he murmured back. For some reason, he felt the need to keep his voice soft and his pawsteps light, as if trying to stay hidden, even though the strange cat was probably dead and there were no monsters in sight. Glancing back, he asked, “Keep watch, yeah?” Pantherhaze frowned deeply but, after a moment, nodded, and cast his eyes down the thunderpath in both directions.
Knowing his friend was watching his back, Yarrowshade refocused on the task at hand. He crept up on the body - a she-cat by the smell of it - with wide, curious eyes. Her long, feathered tail was a deep ginger but as he got closer, he saw that her pelt was mostly a dusty brown. He’d never seen a cat like her before. Her pelt was a little scraped up, but as far as he could tell there weren’t any mortal wounds. He hovered over her, mouth open to scent for the source of the blood as he lifted a paw to gently prod her side. The she-cat groaned blearily and shifted, causing him to flinch backwards.
Pantherhaze noticed and called over, “What is it!?”
“She’s alive!” Yarrowshade called over his shoulder. “I’m gonna try and wake her!” Carefully he shook her shoulder a bit, eliciting more pained groans.
“Uh, hey there…” he ventured. “You alright?”
She shifted again and managed to pull her feet underneath her, crouching defensively as she turned to face him, revealing a trail of thick blood rolling between her striking blue eyes. “Wh… What…” she tried but couldn’t make it much further into the sentence. She winced and ducked her head, clearly in a lot of pain.
“Hey, it’s alright. Let’s get you off the thunderpath, yeah?”
“The… what…?” she looked around and then swallowed. “Oh. Yeah, o…okay.” Yarrowshade sighed in relief and gave her shoulder a few reassuring licks, ignoring the acrid taste of monster that clung to her fur. He came up behind her and nudged her side and she instinctively moved away. He shepherded her back to Pantherhaze this way, only pausing to let her rest once they were safely hidden among the grass at the top of the hill.
“Are you alright?” Pantherhaze asked, sniffing at the messy wound on her forehead. The stranger pulled away from him but winced at the sudden movement and lowered her head, looking sick to her stomach.
“I’m fine,” she managed after a moment with an attempt at a smile.
“You should come with us,” Pantherhaze said quickly. “We have someone back at camp who will know how to help you.”
Seeing the suspicion in the she-cat’s eyes as she regarded the offer, Yarrowshade added, “At the very least, we have herbs to help with the pain.”
She glanced at him with her eyes only, holding as still as she could, and thought for a moment before she closed her eyes and huffed, “I guess why not. Not like I could stop you if you decided to make me.”
“We would never,” Pantherhaze assured her and Yarrowshade chuckled at his friend’s naivety.
“Yeah, it would be much easier to leave you to die,” he joked. Pantherhaze scowled at him but, surprisingly, the stranger laughed.
“I ‘spose so, huh…” she did her best to stand up straight and open her eyes so she could look at them as she said, “You can call me Scorch.”
“Good to meet you, Scorch,” Yarrowshade grinned. “I’m Yarrowshade, this is Pantherhaze. We’re from RisingClan.”
“Oh… you’re those cultists I’ve been hearing about.”
“Cultists!?” Pantherhaze blustered, tail lashing. “What do you mean, cultists?”
Yarrowshade brushed his tail against his friend’s leg. “You can interrogate her about it once she’s had a few poppy seeds, Hazey. Come on.” And with that he pressed up against Scorch’s side, allowing her to lean on him on the walk back to camp.
UPDATES:
- A rogue named Scorch is found on the thunderpath.
Who's your starclan guide? Do you have lore for them?
Her name is Poppyblaze. She was 18 moons old when she died and she's been around for a very long time. For some reason though, despite the fact that no one knows how she died anymore or even what Clan she was in, she refuses to fade, lingering around and keeping eyes on the cats still living beneath StarClan's gaze.
Sagetooth has had a lot of conversations with her and even considered her a good friend back when she was a younger cat, less busy with Healer work.
Who is Poppyblaze? Why has she stuck around so long? What is she waiting for? Will we ever know?

i want to make a clangen blog similar to yours (documenting a clan), any tips?
Ooh, this is a really good question. I think my main tip is
TAKE
NOTES!
I have a MASSIVE Google Doc where I keep track of the things that stand out to me month by month. Here's an example of what that looks like from the doc for the Clan that I made as a test run for RisingClan:
You can see I use Headers to make it easy to travel between months and I have each point as a check box so i can mark it off once I post it on the blog. I also leave a note every time a cat changes rank of what their new Traits/Skills are since those get lost when they move to the next rank.
I also keep track of the cat's description in the Alliances tab so i can easily replicate it and once a cat becomes an adult I take a photo of their profile so i have accurate color refs since my doc is already like 4 years into the future and when a cat dies it changes their sprite colors. This has been a bit of an issue when a kit or apprentice dies but I luckily haven't had to deal with that too much.
And then I would say, my other Big Tip is to let yourself get creative with it. The ClanGen events are just a suggestion and, knowing what i do about my Clan, I've already started taking liberties a little bit to make the events feel more cohesive and satisfying. If you don't want to document sprains because they're rarely important, then don't. If you get a cat who has a specific backstory and you want to change it to something totally different, do that! The world is your oyster, do whatever you want and have fun with it. If it isn't fun, do something else.
This was so long but I hope it answered your question well enough ^w^ Good luck with your blog!
"Let's not stick around to find out," says Nightfrost, turning to lead the patrol away. There's prey to hunt and borders to check. Best to leave the twolegs to their business.
Do you have a clangen account? Do you like interacting with fellow clangen accounts? WELL HAVE I GOT THE DEAL FOR YOU!!:
This new era of PoppyClan, we'll see our three new protagonists take a lot of border patrols in the early moons- more than the original PoppyClan ever did! In these patrols, we end up coming across a lot of other clans, and I thought it would be fun if we used that as an opportunity to interact with some other accounts! If you run a clangen account, and like the idea of your characters being included in the upcoming moons, please let me know! I'd love to draw them interacting with my lil guys!
it'd be fun if you got some cats interacting with my cats. But if they're to out of the ordinary since they're devilcats and sparklecats though that's fine 🙂
As the head writer for Clangen, I'm absolutely blown away by the story you've used the game to inspire. You're a fantastic writer, and the legends of your cats will live on within the patrols of the forest biome, told by the cats with the storyteller and lore skills.
fst_train_risingclangift_storylorelocked1,
fst_bord_risingclanref_allies_lorelocked1,
fst_bord_risingclanref_neutral_lorelocked1,
and the many biome and seasonal clones of thyme_risingclanref_storylorehealerlocked1 are all gifts for you, thank you so much for the wonderful tale you're weaving. Maybe I should make another myth about the battle! These skill-locked patrols are now in dev, and should be in the main game in the next release. <3 <3 <3
I AM SCREAMING
WHAT OH MY GOD THANK YOU I AM SO HONORED???? I've seen you in my notes but i had no idea! I'm gonna cry wtf?!
The one about mental illness is so special to me (they all are, oh my god) i cant believe my silly little blog managed to make an impact on the game I love so much <3 Thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart
okay, so I'm kinda swamped with stuff I have to do outside of drawing for tumblr so I'm sticking with just devilclan until school is over. So expect updates to be slow but i am working on them. Once summer starts I'll have a lot more time to do two clangen blogs. Also if somebody wants to send all the screenshots of the settings for the newest version of clangen that would be helpful as I only have the web version. It's so I can convert my clangen challenge into those settings so everyone can play it if they want.

100% of the people who voted chose to start a new clan and the only 2 options for theme that were chosen was the my own challenge, The Kin Challenge, and for an apocalypse. So, what I'm going to do is an apocalypse The Kin Challenge. With both of those combined it's interesting, no one has ever done it before because, well, it's my own made up challenge, and it helps keep the clan small and manageable. I still love Devilclan and plan to do updates or at least tell you guys what's going on in Devilclan but the new blog will be my new main clangen blog.
So, I have like dedication issues (or whatever it's called, i forgot) and I've played many moons ahead, I'm at like moon 30... 6? in game. And I love these cats, I love the story they've made, I'm just bored. I know I only have up to moon 1 out but I'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD and I'm too afraid to actually bring it up to somebody soooo. I'll still probably do updates sometimes. If drawing the moons were as quick as playing them then I'd already have up to moon 100. I'm stuck on what to do though.
