Cheap Dress Up
Today I decided to add a catch can to my Brz. I've been beating on it for the better amount of the last 4 years and I should probably start taking better care of this car.
Lately I have been noticing the smell of burning oil every once in a while and if we’re being truly deadass, I just wanted an excuse to add a shiny part to my engine haha. So here we are one Cusco catch ready to go cause your boys a Material Girl at heart.
Overall it’s a pretty easy install, the hardest parts are strictly due to space issues (The PCV Valve is in a pretty cramped space) .
Started off by removing the two inner bolts on the rear bars to mount the Cusco Bracket.
Next was removing the tube from on the PCV Valve from the passenger side, and replacing it with the provided tubing. Next is cutting off enough slack so you reroute a secondary tube. The provided tubing is bigger than the Breather Valve so you will need to cut off a piece of the old tubing and sandwich it into the new tube.
After tightening down all the clamps and adding a lil sticker, it was time to take a look at my shiny new Toy.
Personally I really like the way the FA20 looks, for a modern motor it always just gives off this vintage feel that really drove me towards the car. There's something about how they can be dressed up to be more aggressive, and can be personalized to match your style. The Dress Up aspect of drifting has always been the most important part to me. I was always amazed by all the personalization and real passion you can see in how some people dress up in just a stock car. It felt less like a flex off and more like trying to put together a piece of art that they can drive anywhere and any time.
I always liked that energy and attention to detail, but with these cars it is hard to justify some styling points with this car. It's a pretty new car and if I’m being blunt the engine bay from the factory is just boring to look at. Could eassily fix that with a turbo, but my bank account looked at me like Terry Cruise and I decided to pipe down. There’s not much you can do cheap in the engine bay outside of an intake that “technically” counts as a performance part ( Even if the OEM one is Proven to be better). I do have a TR Lightweight Crankshaft and Water Pump Pulley. Helps with the revs and it’s a nice lil gold touch.
This along with a few other lil bits like the GReddy water neck and Blitz intake I picked up from Upgarage the engine has some personality. The Catch can has a nice polished finish to it, and that Cusco blue is a nice accent color that compliments the car. At some point I want to switch out my Blitz Strut bar for Cusco, but I really like the red plates. I might just combine the two so I can have red strut braces and a polished bar. I think that would look really cool!
If you read this far, I appreciate you, this is my first write up and honestly I want to try more of these for whenever I’m tinkering with my car, or going over some nerdy facts about sex spec and 2000’s flashy cyber punk aesthetic. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next time!!!
