Fang is surprised by the hug—at first. Peach has not been so physically affectionate with her since they were children. She looks down at her, surprised, but also pleased that the height difference between them has stayed much the same—and then lifts Peach into the air with a laugh, spinning them both in circles, just as she used to do when they pretended to ‘dance.’

It’s not long after the fall of Insomnia that Gladio hears familiar steps behind him—Prompto’s got a pretty unmistakable gait, after all, different from Ignis’s and Noctis’s–and then feels arms around his middle.

Gladio doesn’t talk about his feelings. He doesn’t really know if he even believes in talking about feelings. He’s a man of action, like his Father was, and that hurts sometimes, and it hurts more now—holding everything in and up on his shoulders as the world crumbles in and around his hands.

His back muscles tighten and shift as he strains his own nerves. Prompto leans his forehead against his back and whispers a wordless sigh. Gladio mumbles nothing in particular back. The words, again, don’t matter, there’s nothing that can express the grief and the pain he feels—

But the less emphasis you put on words, the more the little actions matter. This is the first hug he’s had since the last time he saw Iris. And he feels like he could crumble under the weight of it this time, but he doesn’t.

He smiles, and loops his arm around Prompto’s neck and ruffles his knuckles through his choco-colored hair. Prompto protests, and Gladio eventually lets him go. But in that brief moment of kindness, of touch—of someone else holding Gladio for a while—-the whole world stopped, and he was finally able to let out the scream he was holding in through laughter and jeers.

He gives him a wink as he pulls away, a touch of his knuckles to his shoulder—not to hurt, but to tease.

And while words don’t matter to him, or at least, that’s what he’ll always say—he nods his head, and the smile gets a little less forced and a little easier.

dona had a rough childhood. her parents were very poor, and also alcoholics, similar to jecht. while they were not abusive, and were in fact very supportive of dona----they did not have the temperment for parenthood, being silly and rather ridiculous when drunk, spending their money foolishly when they should’ve spent it on supporting the household. their antics were the talk of the town---and though dona tried her best in school and at church, she was always looked down on and bullied. after her mother died from an attack by sin, money got even tighter. she got tired of being laughed at, and of going hungry while her father drank and laughed---and she joined the temple to train to be a summoner.

the reputation of her family did not go away. she had to work harder to be taken seriously, people expected both more and less of her as the daughter of the town drunks----but she more than exceeded their expectations.

she put up great walls to surround herself due to her feelings of not being taken seriously, and only ended up letting one person in: barthello, who was smitten from her from the moment he saw her, and insisted on being her guardian. dona would grow fond of him over time, but she would never even think of taking on another guardian. she only trusts him, and she appreciates that he is a quiet man of few words that lets her vent at him excessively.
