I was just talking to one of my friends and roleplay partners about this last night. The fan kid ocs I have for Loki, they all have unique experiences about their feelings about being his children. (Not out of anything he did, mind you, it’s just their own feelings and insecurities around fitting in)
Narvi, the oldest and only son. He was the first child that Loki and Sigyn adopted. And then he revealed to them he had a little sister, so the two immediately went to adopt her as well. Anyway, Narvi had always admired his mother. He wanted to be just like Sigyn, strong, fearless. And then the accident happened, and his leg was permanently injured. It knocked his already fragile self esteem even further down. The good thing is, that his parents never looked down on him. Loki had a cane commissioned for his son, imbedded with Seider to lessen his pain. The Cane would be used as a weapon by Narvi as he got older.
His insecurities though never truly went away despite his family’s love for him. It blinded him, his feelings of inadequacy. He didn’t understand Asgardian youth his age, and they made no effort to understand him either. To him, I think it felt like an unachievable goalpost that kept rising. He wanted to be understood but there was always that disconnect and feeling like you don’t belong.
Vali didn’t have that as much as her brother. She was the middle child, and unlike most middle child tropes, she was never ignored. She made her presence known with her kindness and enthusiasm. She loved to learn from both her parents, and she shined. She did have a disability, she was born with no hearing. The whole family knew sign language. and taught her from a young age to read lips as well. She had constant support and love from their family as well. She did have some insecurities, but it wasn’t the same as Narvi. Hers was about physical traits. She looks the least like her parents out of her siblings, blonde and blue eyes. On several occasions, people mistook her for Thors daughter and not Lokis (Loki was not happy about that). So, she took it upon herself to change her appearance, despite her families insistence not to do anything. She would use small spells to change her hair color to red, the same as her mother’s. And when that did not satisfy her she got Narvi to help her. The two found a spell that they thought would change her appearance to be exactly like their family. However, Narvi messed up one of the lines in the spell because Vali was insisting he go faster. He turned her into a giant wolf, and she attacked him (his leg being mangled in the process) and she ran away. Eventually they did bring her home, and they were able to find a way to return her to her normal form. After the incident, she stopped feeling that insecurity.
Nyx, the baby of the family. Loki and Sigyns only biological child. Nyx was so important to them. She was born..unique. Due to Lokis shapeshifting and Sigyn being a demon born (technically), she was born with horns, wings and a demon tail. She had a similar insecurity about being apart of the family. Not out of physical traits or standards though, just an overall sense that she didn’t belong on Asgard. The other children avoided her, and in a desperate attempt to fit in among the Asgardians, she cut her own wings off. She hoped that they wouldn’t be so afraid of her anymore. Thor had been the one to find her in a pile of blood. She survived, but she would never be able to get her wings back. When the other children continued to mock her and run from her, she started to copy Lokis behaviors she had seen, manipulating and deceiving to get people to stay at her side. Only after going to earth (Midgard) and making true friends did she ever make positive changes in her life and attitude.
