I am bruised by losing you.

Is it a homesick state of mind,

keeping me alive?

I watched the lights disappear

I’m afraid I’m nothing more

then an immense vessel

for devastated things.

I’ve succumbed to the noise

invading my brain,

the chaos

swarming every deep breath,

the loneliness that screams

when I miss myself,

I miss myself again..

Must I shelter a stubborn heart?

A distressed brain?

Spent lungs?

For what worth do I nurture

a vacant thing?

I am a growing waste,

longing to hold myself once more,

hoping to come home.

I want to sit by the ocean and sink in sunsets that wrap me up, keep me safe and don’t let go

I want to see street art and hear new music that makes my soul wake and give away every last penny I’ve got on me to something that matters

I want to run in the sand and jump in the water and scream. Free, I want to be free

I want to get on trains with unknown destinations, I’ll go to museums by myself and put art on buildings that look empty like me

I hope you know you can laugh and you can yell and you can speak up if you want too. I hope you never silence your soul because of fear

I hope you know you can sing at the top of your lungs. If you’re in the store or the shower and your soul wants to sing along to the songs, I hope you sing your heart out

I hope you know you can be yourself. Wherever you are and whoever is near and whatever you feel, I hope you be you and love every second of it
