My plan on making every members rooms and figure out how they actually lived in a small ass base.. They all have an underground space!

there were SO MANY PROBLEMS i hardly know where to begin. for the sake of being somewhat objective i wont even mention the grimmons disrespect even though i REALLY FUCKING WANT TO but anyway.

that movie was the definition of rushed. i understand why it was rushed, and i understand that it was meant to be one last hurrah for the series, but i think it utilized its time ineffectively and poorly. the things that restoration chose to focus on were absolutely batshit to me. for one thing, my #1 gripe and its biggest problem - the reversion of EVERY CHARACTER ARC WE HAVE SEEN OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS.

and yes, i am including burnie’s own writing and the chorus trilogy in this. by season 13, the characters had grown tremendously. they were actual heroes. they had actually saved the people of chorus from a planet-wide massacre. they were a proper team, and they were FRIENDS. they use the word friends multiple times by that point. and, keep in mind, restoration is NOT de-canonizing seasons 1-13 - only seasons 14 through 18. so why on gods green earth do the reds LEAVE CABOOSE BEHIND TO DIE TO THE META???

like im sorry i actually cant get over this. especially because, in the season BURNIE WROTE where they fought the REAL META, not only did they NOT leave the blues (and wash) to die to the meta, but GRIF almost died saving them!!!! why would they just randomly decide to leave caboose behind? and caboose in particular? the reds all demonstrably have a soft spot for him, sarge especially! he would NEVER have let that happen, not even for a second. this moment was so OOC i actually had to pause it cause i was getting pissed off sdklfds

aside from that, sarge’s death felt forced as hell (because of the aforementioned idiot ball that the reds had been given), i didnt understand the rehashing of wash’s recovery when i thought seasons 16 and 17 did a pretty great job of that already, and also tucker isnt fucking in it? like tucker was being possessed and forced to attack his friends and literally killed sarge and we just. dont see his reaction to any of that. like we never get to know how tucker reacted to hearing that he fucking murdered one of his oldest teammates.

also donut wasnt in the fucking movie and he got one line and it was a gay joke. i actually could not believe that they did that to him. like they just dropped that he became an admiral out of NOWHERE and he doesnt fucking show up at the end to help? you’re SERIOUSLY telling me donut would leave them to fight the meta and wouldnt even come to see sarge’s grave or to see grif off???? HELLO???????

also i lied i am gonna talk about the grimmons moment cause ok. i never really believed that the dudebros that created red vs blue would ever be brave enough to canonize that. but even taking the romantic aspect out of it, simmons leaving with grif just made more sense. not even to be with him, but because… why the fuck would he stay? to be the king of nothing? he was already an ACTUAL captain of an ACTUAL squad. he won a war. he saved a planet. why does he need to stay at blood gulch to be the commanding officer of a fake military outfit with ONE MEMBER?

the movie is ostensibly about letting go, but. none of them do. they are all still there, and none of them have anything left at blood gulch anymore. they have all grown so far past blood gulch, even if we’re just talking abt seasons 1-13, they’re too big for it now. simmons deserves better than to be alone in red base for the rest of his life. tucker and caboose deserve to not be trapped in the box canyon where their best friend died for the rest of their lives. they all deserve to move on. and i think thats what the ending should have been - all of them deciding to leave, together, and forge a new life for themselves.

the whole movie just felt like such a massive step back. like season 5 era writing. i could tell burnie hasnt been writing them for a long time, and probably hadnt been keeping up with the show itself - they really did feel like they were all back to square one.

ill give credit where it’s due - tex coming back one last time, and winning because she was based on the crew’s memory of her, that was good. i never dreamed kathleen would come back. but, overall, i thought this movie was terrible. i consider 17 to be the proper ending to rvb, because i think the character work in 15-17 is so vitally important to the story that retconning it would be disrespectful.
