Hiatus

Taking a hiatus from DV, should have started it earlier tbh! But it feels good to take a few months and not look at the site. Just burned out on the site mechanics and how expensive everything is.

State of DV

I'm happy with the experience of supporting this game and seeing it get made. I had a fun time during beta, at grand opening, and more fun meeting all kinds of artists. The money I spent was disposable income so instead of buying something corporate-owned to entertain me, I got to support a fledgling game developer with a really cool artstyle that was similar to what I wanted to do with my own art.

My interest in the site, at the moment, is flatlining. I can't figure out why I would want to collect all the non-limited pets, or what to do with my extra outfit slots because they're not additional characters, they're just options for me to wear in the forum. The limited pets are also very onerous to obtain. It's not fun to quest for them and the pets don't have any utility outside of display. I think, for me, I would need to see more gameplay/display utility from my collection before my interest would perk up. I still like all my pets and clothing but can't figure out what I want them to do for me other than be safely collected.

For the month of May, I'm going to see the Spring/Summer exchange for Accessory Addicts Anonymous through, as well as the Summer Market add-on event afterwards, and then I'm going to dial back most of my involvement with the site. Might limit my logins and disable my accessory shop. The AAA discord will still be open, other members are proposing some pretty fun games and events, and I'm sure the genshin channel is still hopping, lol. Those who want to engage with me on Discord are also welcome to add me (Desnik #3519) or just hop into the guild server which I will reveal on reblog.

And I also want to reiterate: I typically support indie developers and small artists with my disposable income, so for me, backing the KS was money that I'd normally spend and not expect much back from it. I have a monthly allowance I set aside for choosing people I want to support, because as a small creator myself, I like helping out. I can imagine someone for whom those higher KS tiers were a bigger deal, they might feel more sore about how things are going, and that's cool! Everyone's experience was different. As far as a long-lasting relationship with the game goes, that's definitely feeling dicey for me. I did want more out of this game, but it feels like I've experienced what it had to offer and can move on. Maybe I'll check in later.
