4 years ago today I got the call, I fell to my knees and cried like I had never cried before. You were gone, and there was nothing I could do, never again would I be able to see you

I remember sifting through your house and seeing a binder full of discs, each labelled with my name and date - you were there for everything, present when others were not. Years of footage of me growing up, from my first steps and school nativity plays to me singing and playing wildly in your garden and my first ever time performing on a stage. You were there for everything, every accident, every time I called to say I was scared. Every Christmas morning I’d wait for you to arrive at the door. Videos of us and our adventures together - you gave me life and time when nobody else did.

You were a simple man with simple routines, you wore the same clothes everyday; you had 3 of the same green jumper, 3 of the same white vest, 3 of the same pair of tracksuit bottoms, 3 pairs of socks. You wore your daft fishing hat and honestly, I think I have only ever seen you put your teeth in once and that was for my communion. You smelt of the same imperial lather soap and tobacco regardless of the occasion. You had one pair of solid slippers for indoors and walking boots for outdoors.

I remember you starting each day chatting to me as I ate my cereal and you’d roll your cigarettes placing each in the tin very carefully, counting out your number for the day. You’d ask me what I thought the winning lottery numbers would be and without hesitation you’d write them all down.

Every time you’d put the lottery on, we’d talk about our shared dream, living in a small home together on a bit of land, you’d have geese and chickens and a duck called Henry and you’d have a barn built with a big trampoline inside for me. You would have dogs and a nice big fireplace where after a day of running wild and free in the fields and climbing trees come rain or shine I’d sit by and keep warm as you made tea and supper.

I’d sit wide eyed and would add the dream to my prayers each night.

You taught me how to fly fish, and I’d read through all of your books dying to make my own little fly - I liked the nymphs. Eventually we sat down and I made an atrocious pink thing but you were so proud of it that it found a home for itself on your hat. You also taught me how to set fires with a magnifying glass, and how to use them to engrave sticks.

You took me to the library every week, and watch proud as I would hold as many books as my little arms could carry, you knew I’d sit and read the lot.

We got up to so much mischief you and I.

I was the apple of your eye, and you were my whole universe.

So a lot of who I follow are writers, people who do a lot of musing and poetry, I also follow blogs that just post aesthetics I enjoy or art I enjoy. I follow SOME nsfw posters on here but I have a secondary blog for all that stuff so they won’t get a mention on this one.

I’m also going to make it clear that these are all MY OWN personal likes and opinions on each

@timelessxo - beautifully haunting and melancholic, her writing is raw and real and is a true expression of human experience, human errors, regrets, yearning and longing. I adore her. Extremely sweet person and I eat up any and alll of her posts, they are delicious. Honestly I cannot express just how much I adore this blog.

@eternalobserving - amongst reposts of stuff he finds cool. you’ll find true and honest expressions of life, accountability, failure and triumph and the musings of honestly, a pretty chill guy. He also chats about just what he’s doing so like if you want a blog that reminds you that there are genuine humans behind them he’s your guy. Man needs to give the people what they want and what they want are more posts (I am people). Everything is just refreshingly real.

@thelightsideofsin - love, longing, yearning and true expressions of adoration mixed with raw human want and need and longing. Every piece posted a devastatingly beautiful confessional, and what I say next is not meant in mockery but honestly it’s like Sylvia Plath has been handed a laptop and Tumblr account. *chefs kiss*

@ss-writess - insanely gorgeous writing about love, life and the universe. Honestly almost every post has me feeling as though I’m travelling a cosmos. His anons are hilarious too. Would recommend for romance, beauty and absolutely bizarre and comical back and forths with anons and followers. (Also if you are reading this, I do intend on responding to your response on my asking for writing advice, I’ve just not had the words to express my thanks especially given the time you put in)

@lehermit - incredible writer and artist, new to follow but have seen works come up before on my feed them fade when refreshing before I can like or follow then finally they reappeared! At some point soon they are going to get spammed as I go back and reread their works. A delectable prose and the sheer articulation in each post and work is beyond stunning.

I mean I will happily also accept any recommendations, but other blogs I like and honourable mentions

Pulling a dumb face, unclear why.

I have no want for falsehoods and promises of the world.

I want a love that is honest, a love that is soft and quiet but burns ferociously. I want a love that is built day by day, with patience and deep understanding.

I want the small things, the maintainable - kisses in the morning and a kiss goodnight. I want small tokens, letters and notes to know you care. Soft touches and knowing eyes. I want lasting conversations and glances that could say a thousand words. I want to be known intimately, I want to know you in ways I will never know another. I want your flaws and habits, I want you imperfect.

I want to be held accountable, to be argued with and reasoned with, I want to be loved at my highs and loved harder at my lows. I want to shower you with affection and open my whole soul to you to knowing that it is safe in your arms.

I want something real.
