If this were any other night, these touches would come to a predictable and enjoyable end. But not tonight. Tonight at least, the silver string had transmuted these touches into sensations heavy as dragon scales, laden with vows before Hylia, judgment from Naydra, joy from their parents. Filled with hopes and promises to each other.
And so he could hold her in silence, and love her in silence.
…If the worst came to pass, he told himself as he watched her, if Calamity or worse tore them apart, he’d never forget. Not this sensation of words coiled in his locked throat, not the splashes of crimson as her bare feet tickled the water with streams of foam.
Not this love.
