I'm taking part in this workshop today with KatherineĀ Gillieson. Katherine is a professor at Emily Carr U and a lot of her research talks about mapping the built environment using exploratory methods such as visualizing the "flavor" or "ambience".Ā

19th May, 2009, Prague experienced a daylong street performance called UFF. We were monitoring signal of one of our mobile phones just as Czech Police does it.ā¦
Kinda wild but I really like this. I think the description at the beginning of the video comparing ACTIVE vs PASSIVE space is interesting. "We have a chance to change our surroundings and influence to game"! I like the idea of the city as a playground, as a game where we (the people) reclaim it, rather than the power structures from above. What do you guys think?Ā

Urban Interventions: Broken City Lab
Hey Guys! Broken City Lab is an artist collective in Windsor ON. My hometown.. represent! They create urban interventions and try to re-inhabit the city. Windsor ON is a border town. We border Detroit MI. They create projects which re-imagine the relationship we have with Detroit and the political and social implications of the border crossing. They raise questions like, what would the dynamic of the two cities, (Detroit & Windsor) be like if there was no border?

Anthony Dunne & Fiona Raby: Critical Design
Hi Guys!
This is an article that really helped me get my head around what it means to challenge current infrastructures and spaces around us and to re-design and re-inhabit a wide variety of designed urban spaces. It uses the word ācritical.ā
"Critical" is a word used to challenge narrow assumptions, preconceptions and givens about the role products play in everyday life. Itās about values and an attitude, a way of looking at design and imagining its possibilities beyond the narrow definitions of what is presented through media and in the shops.Ā
