I found out today that there was a (thankfully very ill-fated) attempt to have the entire Wikipedia article on discrimination against transgender men deleted. At first I thought the perpetrator was yet another bargain bin transphobe/TERF act of disruption but apparently not so, she is a trans woman. The user in question had been disputing the use of transandrophobia in the article as being inappropriate, but as other editors pointed out, the way in which it was used was as to be expected (basically saying “hey this term is being used commonly right now in places to describe this phenomena”). When attempts to get the article edited to remove any mention of the term failed, this user instead decided to just nominate the whole article for deletion instead. She even went as far as to say “you will never be a man” to the editors disputing this, though it was quickly deleted. It’s the actions of only a single person, but I find this indicative of how the chronic devaluing and othering of transmasculine people and voices in faux-transfeminist spaces leads to action basically indistinguishable from cis transphobes. Resorting to attempted vandalism of an online resource and blatant transphobia is a symptom of this trend that deserves absolutely no patience at this point.
rumors are spreading about tr*mp forcing people in Northern Vietnam to exhume the bodies of their families so he can build a golf course there. I don't care if it's real- the fact that it's believable is bad enough. As I am a vietnamese-american who literally returned from vietnam days ago, I am furious.
My current problem, the one i'm here to discuss, is this: people in comment sections saying "why is the government allowing this?"
the last time a us president had a problem with vietnam they carpet bombed the country and poisoned its people. agent orange had countless effects on generations of vietnamese people. buildings still carry scars from the bombs. ecosystems were damaged and destroyed. everyone drinks bottled water because there is no safe water and not everyone can afford the pricey purification machines.
regardless of the diplomacy and money aspect, which others have mentioned in those comment sections, vietnam still hasn't fully recovered from the effects of the french, chinese, and US wars fought on its soil. don't blame vietnam for trying to maintain peace with a president who has PROVEN he cares nothing for the lives of those in countries who have what he wants and the US soldiers who will die for it. blame the president of the US for leveraging his position for his own gain.
yes, the vietnamese government will carry blame for it. but the truth is, the Vietnamese people want to be left in peace and there is no way I can, in good conscience, blame them when we have watched tr*mp fund isr*el's genocide in palestine, start ANOTHER war in West Asia/North Africa, and send the national guard to attack the citizens on US soil. And that's not mentioning ICE.
it's sickening the way people treat countries like vietnam as though they carry nearly as much culpability in these situations.

Don't treat the seconds with contempt
The time will come and you will notice
They whistle past your temples like lead
The moments, the moments, the moments,
The moments.

Articles about roe for both Dday and getting sent off after basic !
Transcripts below ! ↓

Eugene Roe thinks the U. S. Para-troopers are a grand outfit. He got his wings April 28 at Fort Benning, Ga., and was then transferred to Camp Mackall, N. C. Since then he has had a ten-day furlough [mandatory leave] at home with his family and friends. On Tuesday night of last week - his last night here - his friends gave him a party at the Hub Club. Rowena Rutledge, Jenny Fergerson, Jackie Abbot, Theno LeBlanc and others were there to give him a good send-off.

Pfc. Eugene Roe of this city was one of those plucky paratroopers who landed in France on D Day. He wrote home after the invasion to say: "We were really scared but they were more afraid of us. They call us "the Yanks with the big pockets who don't know how to stop". I wish I could have taken pictures from the time the "show started". No one will ever believe the story we could tell. I came thru the invasion without a scratch but there were times when I wouldn't have given 2c [??? Anyone know what that means] for my life."
Eugene tells his family that when he gets back to England there is a girl by the name of Vera Hunt whom he hopes to make his bride.
