Hi there.

It has come to my attention that all but one of my OCs have been, to varying degrees, plagiarized by the user @/thesuntoanicarus.

In case roleplay etiquette was unclear to anyone reading this, that's a cruel thing to do to someone, even if your intention is to make similar characters to interact. The impact of plagiarism is the most basic and harmful form of broken trust in a collaborative, creative community like this one.

I want to be clear that I understand exactly what I’m accusing this mun of. I also want to be clear that the issue isn’t the number of OCs or simple overlaps like ethnicity or department, but the blatant copying I noticed and had other muns point out to me, as well as the complete absence of communication with me when piggybacking off ideas that I happened to have in public.

For transparency’s sake, here’s all the proof from my side. The things this mun copied include concepts, unused ideas, inside jokes, and culturally specific research notes, the latter of which took me hours—or in the case of Hera and Sophie, years and a college degree—of unseen work.

Mine: Ian Cohen, the chief of pediatrics who is also a professor at UPitt. Notably, his subordinate, Liana, made his account. @/chiefofpediatrics Theirs: Vere Lu Sasha, the chief of PM&R who is also a professor of occupational therapy. Notably, his subordinate, Sunny (@/sunshineindarkcolours), made his account. Also note identical URL and emoji choices, as well as similar photo choices and pinned post wording. @/chiefofpmandr

Lifted ideas:

Hector Cruz, @/notaigerbils, has a URL taken from a joke I made to other muns, not to this mun directly. Callisto Gautheir, @/traumasurgerysemo was created after I mentioned in conversation with other muns that I missed someone who used to RP with a Robert Pattinson faceclaim. @/vandvtherapy was created immediately after I spoke aloud, again to other muns, about wanting to collaborate on a sibling-run therapy office. This character and @/bunnicayote*, above, are claimed to be run by this mun's "friend who doesn't have Discord."

This mun also asked a friend of mine not to tell anyone about a group of OCs being theirs, because I would find out. Guess what. I still did.

That's a long post. I'm frustrated and exhausted. I feel severed from my own characters. I feel hurt within a community I spent months caring for. I sit here and wonder, do we actually want people to RP with each other or not?

Because the thing that makes me saddest is that I liked writing with the handful of this mun’s characters I interacted with. If this mun had asked me about plotting, I would have been happy to make characters that go together. If the mun wanted to use an idea inspired by something I said or did, asking should have been easy. There was no need to take someone else’s ideas when their original ones could have had their own story, but didn’t get the chance to.

This mun and all of their accounts are blocked on my main and each of my OC sideblogs, but if you happen to see this: I wanted to RP with you. I wanted to write with you. At first, I was so excited to interact with characters similar to mine, but repeated infringement on someone else’s creativity is hurtful. I only wish you had asked me. I hope you grow from this, but do it very, very far away from me. Do not attempt to contact me directly or through anyone else.

I have included a list of each of this mun’s accounts below the cut. I feel it’s right for others in the community to know who is behind the plagiarism that took place. I am not asking for anyone to send hate, anon or otherwise. Do not do so in my name.

I’ve procured a case of needoh toys and mystery stress dumplings. I’m not sure what the craze is about but I was told children love opening the packages because they want a “glitter dumpling.” Please let me know when I can bring them down.
