Happy Birthday to Lilian Harvey (“Das süsseste Mädel der Welt”), 19 January 1906 - 27 July 1968
“No matter in what time period the story is set, how tight my corset is laced or in what kind of impressive hair-do I appear, I am always the same girl, who is keen to play a prank, cheerful and unencumbered.” – Lilian Harvey
“‘Somewhere in this world, there is a little bit of happiness,’ Lilian Harvey sang in Ein blonder Traum, and thus spoke for thousands, who–with all their false consciousness–warmed themselves at the thought.” – Anton Kaes
Willy Fritsch and Käthe von Nagy in Ich bei Tag und du bei Nacht (1932)
Käthe von Nagy smokes cigarette in front of studio light during the shooting for the UFA film produced by Karl Ritter “Le diable en bouteille” (“Devil in a Bottle”), directed by Heinz Hilpert and Reinhart Steinbicker, Germany, 1935

Original Filmset of “ N o s f e r a t u — Eine Symphonie des Grauens ” (1922)
Visited Wismar in northern Germany, known as Wisborg in the movie. You see the fountain inside the Marienkirchhof, the Marienkirchhof and the Wismar water gate; most notorious when Schreck carries his coffin through it
Hedy Lamarr in Man braucht kein Geld (1932)

It was a very lonesome time for Freder. Josaphat had been away for more than a month now. “Oh Josaphat, where are you?” Freder yearned for him to come back. It wasn’t that he hadn’t had him often enough before they parted at the station, but he definitely felt his yearnings to overcome him more often the longer he knew he had to stay alone. But his sorrows needn’t be deepend as in the very moment, the door opened and Josaphat stepped inside. He did not tell Freder about it, nor did he know it himself, the moment he was told to be allowed to leave sooner. “Freder!” he said longingly. Instantly he turned around “JOSAPHAT!” his voice sounded hopeful and surprised. A small quiver and tremble was audible. “Shh, I guess I heard some neighbours in the corridor.” whispered Josaphat as he closed the door slowly. “OH JOSAPHAT!” whined Freder, jumping off the chaiselonge, running directly into Josaphat’s arms. “I MISSED YOU SO MUCH! OH MY DEAR JOSAPHAT! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!” he held him lingeringly and searched his eyes. “Josaphat I felt so helpess without you. I can’t do anything. I can’t cook, I can’t wash, I … I am nobody without you. Never leave me alone again, will you?” “No my dear Freder, from now on I will never leave you alone again.” he whispered and stroked down Freder’s back.
Happy Birthday Peter Lorre [László Löwenstein]: 26th June 1904 - 23rd March 1964
Lorre - perhaps it is a misfortune - can do almost anything. He is a genius who sometimes gets the finest effects independently of his director, but he is also a throroughly reliable repertory actor…I have a horrible fear that film directors will find it easier to follow in Hitchcock’s footsteps and provide Lorre with humorous character parts than discover stories to suit his powerful genius, his overpowering sense of spiritual corruption. He is an actor of great profundity in a superficial art. - Graham Greene writing in 1936
He was a delight to work with and a joy to have as a friend, as he possessed a rare talent for gaiety. There was not a pompous or even solemn bone in his body. - John Huston
Peter was a very cultured man, a very sensitive person, a very loveable man, and with a great sense of humour. - Robert Mamoulian.
He was a remarkable innovator…a man who built his part with little tricks that were almost indiscernible, with his eyes, his face, with his body, and with a little look at the right time, a little shrug of the shoulder. Each of these built a character and built up a love in the director for that person who’s thinking of things that he should be thinking of. - Frank Capra
I am less complicated than anyone I know. My interest and instincts, I am afraid, are strictly normal, but I have always had, even as a child, a fantastical absorption into getting into people’s character - in trying to unmask them and their motives. This, I suppose is what has interested me so much in playing pathological roles, but has not, I want to say emphatically, circumscribed my ambitions, for I want to play all kinds of parts. I don’t care whether it is tragedy or comedy if it is authentic portrayal of life. - Peter Lorre

Happy Birthday László Löwenstein aka Peter Lorre (26 June 1904- 23 March 1964 ∞)
I’ve played mostly bad men— killers— but the audience loves me. You know, I can get away with murder.
He was a magnet… There was a great sadness about him, like a sad, cuddly teddy bear. The crew especially adored him— he was just fun to be with.- Vincent Price
