DerbyCake 2015 Scavenger Hunt Submissions
We are a month and a half away from DerbyCon, and the time to submit items for the Scavenger Hunt is growing thin. With many of the opportunities to gather items in Vegas (Blackhat and Def Con) gone, you will need to use all of your skills to get as many points as possible before cake night. Last time, contestants barely had enough time to snap a picture before the last clue was devoured.
There are two sections to the list. The first, are the items you can turn in @ DerbyCon. The second (much larger list) are the items you can turn in prior to Derby
List: https://gist.github.com/mubix/eeff1fbaacbe15290e32
Submit photographic and video items here: https://www.dropbox.com/request/OrP53Wt8NogpJ9cjdxE7Â
(Make sure to include your team name in the submissions (filename or txt file with zip) or it wonât be counted)
DerbyCake 2015 Scavenger Hunt
In 2011 there was a cake, in 2012 the cake challenged you to crack the hash, in 2013 we went insane with scavenger hunt items. In 2014.. we donât talk about 2014. In 2015, you now have now until Derby to try to win. Ready? Set? GO!
(Local == Louisville, Home = Your home town)

What to expect from the DerbyCake challenge
I've gotten a some questions about people wanting more information about the challenge, but afraid it will be out of there league. Â There are 2 parts to the challenge.
There are 2-ish challenges that will be a part of the cake itself as well as the con, both of these pieces are 50 points each and are highly technical in nature, this piece is more oriented towards the IR/Pentest/Forensics/Crypto/RE bunch.
The scavenger hunt piece is made up over 50 hunt items to either get, get a photo of, or a video. Below is a small snippet of the types of items on the list:
You or your group (proof via video, most get extra points the more people involved):
Playing the "Meow" game (from Super Troopers) on a complete stranger
Get a policeman/women to sing your country's national anthem (from beginning to end!)
Do a dramatic earthquake scene in a public place (extra points if on the video the scene really looks like an earthquake)
Shaking hands with a man with a beard (double points for a woman with a beard)
Stage a Kung-Fu battle on the sidewalk outside a hotel
Walking the dog of someone you don't know
Singing at a karaoke bar
So someone could win by doing just the challenges or a bunch of the scavenger hunt items. I wanted to make it so anyone could win and not just make it rely on pure technical knowledge.
Hope this pushes you towards competing, and we'll see you at DerbyCon!
