a knotts harbor native, selin is equal parts the product of the two unreliable creatives who made her and the grandparents who (unofficially) raised her.

she fled town three years ago in the wake of her fiancé's death... not to mention the slew of bad decisions and unspeakable truths that followed. she probably would have stayed gone, too, except for the fact that those poor choices didn't really go away just because she did.

selin's been back home for a year now, citing "missing her family" as the reason for her equally abrupt return, but in reality she was demoted by the airline she works for in "one last chance" to get it together before being out of a job for good.

born and raised in knotts harbor, selin is second generation turkish american and the middle child of three.

for the most part, her father, a wannabe rockstar of moderate success, only ever blew back into town long enough to help conceive another mouth to feed—then it was back on the road, back on stage, back into the beds of countless women who didn't wear his ring.

selin could never really decide if the fact that her mother, a perpetually struggling but never-quite-starving artist, stayed married to him anyway made her a hopeless romantic... or just a little bit hopeless.

in either case, his extended absences and her mother's resulting "creative" spirals (aka weeks long depressive episodes locked away in her garage studio) meant most of the actual child rearing fell to her maternal grandparents.

despite their best efforts, her grandparents never managed to fully shield selin or her siblings from the chaotic "up, down, in and out" reality of their parents. she grew up wanting to be absolutely nothing like them... all the while harboring a sinking suspicion that, deep down, maybe she already was.

maybe that's why she said yes when her best friend since diapers asked for more. maybe that's why she latched onto the idea of stability and safety he represented. in her mind, their relationship was exactly what she should want. exactly what she needed in order to avoid following in the same footsteps of her parents. and maybe that's why a few years later, when he proposed, she said yes again.

to anyone on the outside looking in they seemed like a dream couple. as far as her fiancé was concerned, they actually were. but selin? selin felt stuck, trying to fit herself into a box that was a size too small and far too beige. for far longer than she ever should have, she kept her mouth shut. convinced herself that getting married to each other was the right—no, the only—move.

to this day she almost wishes she would've figured out how to stay that path. because when she did finally come clean about how she was really feeling, it didn't just end a relationship. it took a life. or so she believes.

technically, she played no hand in the accident that followed his abrupt departure from their apartment, but her words were the catalyst for the argument that led him to leave in the first place. telling him she loved him, but not in the way he deserved, were the last words he ever heard before distracted driving turned into disaster.

losing him broke selin, but having to play the grieving (almost) widow while knowing she'd ended things just before his passing, and carrying the guilt of that at the same time, was too much to bear. she began to spiral, and spiraled hard.

it was exactly one year after his death, though, that sey hit rock bottom. what was meant to be sharing grief and recounting fond memories turned into two people who had no business sleeping together shedding clothes. she woke up the next morning horrified by what she'd done—not simply because of who it'd been with, but because those few hours in each others arms felt... right. for the first time since long before her ex's passing she'd actually felt alive.

spooked and drowning under the weight of her never ending guilt, selin fled town. she probably might have stayed gone, too, if not for a demotion at work. she's been back in town for a year and claims it's all by choice but, the reality is, too many late arrivals, emotional outbursts, and late nights out led her right back to where she started: living in knotts harbor and working out of boston logan on home reserve.

siblings — open wanted connections, 0/2. selin is the middle child of three, so I'd love to see both her older and her younger sibling in game! i haven't made anything canon about them, including gender, so each muse would be entirely UTP.

cousins — open / taken sey could absolutely have cousins in town! this would be open to any fc of turkish (or at least half turkish) ethnicity.

childhood friends — open / taken pretty self-explanatory, but anyone selin developed a friendship with while growing ip in knotts harbor together. their dynamic in current times can be plotted!

ride or die best friend — open / taken likely the one and only person in the world who knows all of selin's secret hopes, dreams, and where she's buried the bodies. they'd do anything for each other... including help hide said bodies if it ever truly came to that.

roommate — open / taken sey lives in downtown knotts harbor! while not strictly necessary, i wouldn't mind her having a roommate or two!

out of state — open / taken not only does she literally travel for a living, but selin moved outside of knotts harbor from approx. 2023-2025. this encompasses anyone she could've met beyond massachusetts' borders and become friends, frenemies, etc. with during that period of life.

the one night mistake? — eventual wanted connection* in my head, this character was either her ex's best friend or older brother. whatever the connection, they're someone who would've been extremely close to him and felt his loss just as deeply as selin. i have a lot of lore and hc's in my head for this so it's best chatted about but, at the end of the day, selin slept with him on the anniversary of her ex's passing and then immediately skipped town. even though she's been back for a year, i imagine they haven't spoken much (if at all) yet, and certainly not about that night.
