My final piece.  I decided not to present the two as a pair.  I wasn’t happy with the other piece.  It will all be in my evaluation, but feel I should have maybe developed the daytime colours more using the A1 development piece.

Some of the process of creating my pair of paintings. 

In my brief I stated that I was going to create a painting or series, I liked the idea of using different moments of the eclipse that I witnessed, as it gives more a mysterious mood, and ties in well with what I want to acheive, by making the viewer wonder.  I started on two A3 pieces of mounting board, and one A2 for my 3 paintings, but felt I could push the idea further.  I decided to have two A2 landscape format for final pieces and started creating different works to make a pair, focussing on a different perspective I came across in other development work.

Jens Hausman.  This artists strange architectural buildings and the scenery there are set in.  His work has influenced my project alot

I have been looking alot at casper david friedrich in this project, this bottom picture gave me the idea to use my eclipse photographs into my compositions.  Christopher Orr’s exhibition ‘The Beguiled eye’ was also a big influence in this project, I studied his work in my essay.

Some other ideas, using my research

Here I used sketches from pitlochry, and used electrical plans and tape to create a structure that cuts across the landscape.  I had bought new paints from great art, they must have changed as I couldn’t get the colours right, it was with my 1-1 with jennie that I realised it was the paints, I went over what I had done to this piece with better paint, and what a difference in getting the required colours.  This is A1 piece and seemed to take me a long time, I could still work on it. 

Some studies using my visual research, looking at colour, composistion, and combining various aspects of one landscape with another, and replacing one structure with another.  I used electrical plans and tape to create my structures within my paintings this takes alot of time but is quite relaxing for me.  I like the perspectives, the one looking up made me think of casper david friedrich. 

I went a day trip to Pitlochry and to the Queen’s view to gather visual research, I did afew sketches on location also.

Some structures from around town that have helped me with idea’s for possible composistions, I like the various angles, shapes and perspective.  I really like the black metal structure. 

This is Dalkeith Campus, I thought it was very unusual to see the light come through only the building and not to be above, really relevant to my project, the colours give me plenty idea’s. 

After my 1st development 1 to 1 with Alan, I was saying that I like some of the work I was doing but felt a bit stuck where to go, I do like the tape house painting and want to develop that idea, we came to the conclusion that I have not enough visual research which I kind of knew, so I will be sourcing landscapes and structures to visit and document asap. 

I also used structures that were already within the painting to experiment with the tape, the above studies don’t work but still show possibilities.
