He’s forced himself in this persona of the nicest guy ever because he grew up in a household where at the age of like. 8. He was forced into a situation where he HAD to be an adult and he HAD to be a care taker.

He needed to be likeable enough to be hired and then to keep his jobs and then likeable enough so MAYBE he could satisfy his mother.

Maybe if he masked any negative trait behind mother henning, he is worthy of love.

This need to “earn” love shaped who he was for the entire rest of his life for the most part. And no matter how hard he tried with this persona it only created more and more distance between him and those around him.

(Obligatory note that i don’t think this was some nefarious attempt to manipulate everyone or that he’s evil or whatever the fuck. People please (and the Fawn response) are trauma and fear responses. Two things can be true that he is manipulative and that his manipulative streak when it comes to getting people to like him, isn’t out of any malice.)

He’d essentially isolated himself behind this empty “nice one” persona. The irony in that is when he drops it in season 4-5 people wanted to be around him more.

ON TOP OD ALL THAT! As said literally by himself, he has really awful self esteem to the point you can totally make an argument that Jon hating him was (at least partially) why Martin fell so hard so fast.

It’s pattern repeating.

Person hates/doesnt care for Martin -> Martin’s instinct is to fawn -> Martin goes out of his way in attempt to earn their approval

Mind, this isn’t Jon hate i think his actual reason to be wary of Martin is fair, even if he went overboard on it.

Would love to keep more critter pokemons into his team, but financially and living space-speaking, it's just not viable

Learns about Bug-Types as a side hobby and has a like towards them (much to Jon's dismay) [Note: yes, this is just like how in canon Martin isn't afraid of spiders, but Jon is]

Bulbsy was given to him when he was in his teens from his mother after he asked if he could have a partner pokemon several times (once when he was a toddler, second when he was adolescent, and third when he was in his late teens)

Martin kept, or more like allowed, Bulbsy to stay as a Bulbasaur because he is not a battler whatsoever and so is Bulbsy, but he does enjoy reading and nerding out about pokemon moves

Found Vinny the Sewaddle injured and weak in the winter and nursed him back to health in his apartment

uhhhhhhh idk my new jonmartin designs and some random stuff about jon.

design notes are that he no longer needs glasses after his full avatar transformation, his powers fixed his poor vision since he can Literally See everything now. the whites of his eyes have become greenish as a result of him losing his humanity, it’s a subtle shift that most people would overlook when seeing him but gives a slightly uncanny appearance. I think eyes appear and open all over his skin when he uses his powers but he keeps a mostly human appearance otherwise
