The obvious is One Party States do not work.

The less obvious is that your primary concern has to be providing for the people and making their lives content. NOT preserving the socialist system.

The Soviet Union's many MANY failings all come down to the fact that failure was supposed to be impossible because communism was perfect, so anyone who reported a failure of any kind was harshly punished. This resulted in people straight up lying on reports and letting obvious problems become worse because any admission of failure to the higher ups and it was off to Stalin's Siberian Adventure Camp.

This caused so many problems from famine to wasted money to broken military equipment, to crumbling infrastructure right up to the very crescendo of Soviet incompetence: The Chernobyl Disaster. The point where the Soviet unwillingness to admit fault, failure, or even a faultless problem at all poisoned an entire continent.

Western socialists general unwillingness to admit any problem with the Soviet Union or worse even claim they're all CIA propaganda is why I have no faith in a workable socialist system arriving within my lifetime because it continues to operate on the basis that "Socialism is perfect, it has no flaws, nothing we need to look out for, and if you think otherwise you're the enemy" that doomed the Soviet Union in the first place.

There's also just the general historical wisdom of "Don't do things the way Russia did it, Russia sucks at everything."
