working on updating some of the story stuff! not everything below is accurate anymore, but I'm keeping it for now.

This is a blog dedicated to an AU I'm working on developing, DELTARUNE: BT! I will try to keep most posts talking about it, but sometimes I'll make more general Undertale/Deltarune posts here too. This AU is still actively being developed, so some things might change with time and be retconned! All drawings are tagged "MY ART"

ABOUT THE AU:

Deltarune: BT is a Deltarune AU set in a post-pacifist Undertale timeline. Frisk takes the role of the 'Player Character' as they find their way into a new world of strange monsters to befriend- Not to worry, they've done this song and dance before. Frisk's party members consist of [Aarch] (Ralsei's replacement) and each of Deltarune's "Secret Bosses," (currently Jevil and Spamton) which stay in the party for the duration of their respective chapters.

ABOUT ME:

they're pretty much the same! on friendlier terms with jevil since jevil hasn't lost it (... completely.) though I'm debating whether or not they're still the court magician? I kind of feel like they probably retired or dipped out of it once spade King started acting out. alternatively, they still are OFFICIALLY the court magician and were sent to go collect Jevil after Jevil's wondered afield (and also told to kill the lightner if they happen across them) but is . not doing that. they are taking the chance to ditch and are not actually following King's orders. their shop is a traveling magician's cart.

and they DO give Frisk a heads up that, it is perhaps best to avoid getting caught, lest they go to the prison- as something... strange seems to have found its way down there and made it home. Though, perhaps they could also deal with it...? Hm... Well, if you want to know where the key is...

concept.

they are sarcastic and dry, and not wholly against violence, but aren't demanding of it. they are not the greatest person, but they have good intentions.

Aarch is, of course, based off of Chara. but Frisk does not personally know Chara, and never did (this Frisk never did No Mercy), only heard stories and listened to the tapes in the Secret Lab. They don't know what Chara looks like beyond being.. similar Enough to them.

So Aarch vaguely looks like a mirror of Frisk, and a little bit like Flowey since Frisk knows their connection to Asriel. Aarch is not the best person, because Frisk knows that Chara wasn't- that's one of the few things they were told about Chara by Asriel. But... their intentions were good, and... Frisk is an optimist that sees the best in everyone. So Aarch is a reflection of that. Aarch is the image Frisk has in their head of Chara, of the child who they know they were both so alike and so different from. One of many children who's deaths long ago paved the way for Frisk, made manifest through their old Heart Locket (another thing of theirs, which is now Frisk's...)

So would this be important to Wyolfe the flower since he’s a flower?

ohh buddy i was writing up a post about Wyolfe rn as I got this ask. which I suppose I might as well just attach to this ask instead. see the thing is...

I will think on it. But i think Wyolfe might get changed significantly. He was always kind of. an obligatory element? there needed to be someone in the Ralsei slot, so make a Flowey parallel instead of Asriel. but thinking about it-

Ralsei, while based on Asriel, is obviously supposed to be some kind of parallel for Kris. Maybe he's their monstersona, what they wished they were, regardless, Ralsei is everything Kris isn't- and, perhaps, some of the things they wish they were. And, besides, Ralsei is the voice of pacifism, but we don't NEED that here because Frisk already IS that.

Frisk does not quite have this same complex that Kris does. But. There is one person.

Who came before them.

Who they reminded people of.

Who they were mistaken for.

Who, even if some people don't MEAN to make it so,

they are the replacement for.

... and, well. I HAVE pretty much established the chapter secret bosses are the items from the previous fallen children, so those items have been established to become darkners. and Frisk happens to have a particular Locket on their person at all times which would explain why they have a particular darkner attached to them at all times. So...

Well. this frisk never did a No Mercy run. They never got a chance to meet someone special. But they've heard so much about them...

whats frisks relationship with king like? is he still in jail like in canon or does he lighten up a bit more over the course of the story due to frisks unrelenting kindness? based on previous answers frisk isnt able to get through to him in chapter 1 (jevil anti monarchy moments) but frisk is historically very persistent with people who tried to kill them lol

dude ironically . it wasnt even that. ive been thinking about undertale and deltarune for the past few days and didnt even KNOW there had been a trailer because i never watch directs. i only found out about that like, ten minutes before i made the post, it's been building up in my head recently without it. and ive been thinking about aus which naturally lead me back here.

Anyway he's still in jail yeah. he probably lightens up by the end and is able to be let out once frisk has more than thoroughly proven his views wrong but the darkners were not a fan of him trying to kill their new super nice friend so he got banished to jail until he was willing to knock it off and promise to not try to kill them anymore (and also he and the other kings have to accept Not being kings anymore because they've all decided they Don't Want Those guys in charge)

Anyways, peak AU!!! Frisk and Flowey are my favorite Undertale characters besides Chara and Asgore, so I love this!!!

Question: Does Kris exist in this AU? Like as a being separate from Frisk, or no?

Yes. Its the same as Ralsei looking like Asriel and his name being an anagram of Asriel. Flowey -> Wyolfe. But Wyolfe isn't Flowey, just like Ralsei isn't Asriel.

They would potentially be NPCs around Home Town. They're several years older than Frisk though, so while friendly with Frisk, aren't friends with them in the same way Frisk is friends with MK (Monster Kid).

2. The Ralsei stand in of this AU reminds me of an OC from an Deltarune Yellow take that is on YouTube. He is even named Wyfole and is a flower for crying out loud.

proobablyyyy not? at least not in the same way. while I'm not eloquently enough spoken to really breakdown the jitterbug scene, I do think people acting like sans or toriel are being horrible and evil for not considering Kris's emotions are insane- though deltarune sans DOES show significantly LESS social awareness than Undertale sans (mr. 'i can tell how many times you've died JUST BY YOUR EXPRESSION.')

so, even while sans isn't the most responsible person, I think he'd. definitely be able to tell that Frisk was Bothered by something and be more. Tactful about it?

but also there isn't the divorce context here. Toriel and Asgore have been separated for ages, Frisk didn't experience their divorce first hand and Sans isn't a stranger to them. so they also wouldn't be bothered by Toriel and sans hanging out and drinking in quite the same way Kris is?

complicated! its complicated. I suppose my end point is that even if it does it wouldn't have all the extra layers of underlying drama that it does in Deltarune because all of these characters are just. not the same?

Toriel and Sans have known each other for longer, Sans isn't a stranger to Frisk, Sans is better at reading people in undertale than he seems to be in deltarune and would know if frisk was freaked out and therefore know to be more Tactful, and also just in general- while Toriel is the person Frisk primarily lives with and for legal purposes is their primary guardian, Frisk regularly stays at other monster's houses. If Toriel and Sans were planning on drinking, one of them would've called someone else (Papyrus, by someone else I mean Papyrus) to look after Frisk probably?

In general this Tenna is moderately toned down in terms of his behavior particularly in regards to violence/threats (... when it comes to Frisk. Other people he's... about the same as he is in canon with.)

Mostly because Frisk is younger than Kris so it kind of feels like a Lot but also Frisk comes from a much... saying 'more' troubled household doesn't feel like the right phrasing exactly, but Tenna's generally not going to be intentionally inflicting any kind of real harm on them until his breakdown boss battle, during which his intention still IS just to try to exhaust them into giving up but his method of exhausting them is battling with them until their hp hits 1 (i.e they are on the brink of death), so..

I think this actually might result in Tenna instead just zapping Spamton and Jevil (Wyolfe takes up the same battle slot as Frisk and is usually perched on them so there's no way for Tenna to zap Wyolfe without also zapping Frisk), which becomes (intentionally or not) the emotional manipulation of 'do what i want you to or your friends get hurt' which is, frankly, a MUCH more effective method of getting Frisk's compliance than actually harming Frisk directly is.

and... Spamton doesn't have the same sort of easter egg because during the NEO fight he IS trying to kill Frisk, so he doesn't immediately regret doing so, not soon enough to be seen before the game over screen. its the first time this version of Spamton ever actually SEES the strings and he doesn't really understand what the FUCK that means and he's freaking the hell out on a lot of levels so. uh. somewhere in that he decides taking Frisk's soul is the solution.
