Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
I guess because it's raining, because it's getting close to the holidays, I travel back in time.... I was around 10 years old when the Rolling Stones released Goodbye Ruby Tuesday. Seems like I was older.
I think because so much was happening at that time. I was 5th out of 6 kids, something was always going on. Vietnam was happening, one of my brothers, 7 years older than me, went into the army. The oldest brother, 8 years older than me, went into the navy. My older sister, 6 years older was going to graduate. When you are part of a big family, and have so many older siblings, maybe you grow up faster.
It is a mixed bag of feelings. Funny how when your thoughts take you back, it's almost like you really visited. All of those feelings resurface.

Music in Me
Music has a way of transporting me to where I need to be, depending on the mood I'm in. I listen to music that takes me back to my teens and once again, I'm there. I'm in my bedroom, singing to the songs. My feelings, happiness, sadness, confusion, fear, the wonder. I experience all of it again. Riding my bike, talking on the phone, walks in the woods, barefoot in the creek. Getting off the school bus meeting my friends. Passing notes in class, laughing, crying, school dances. As I am much older now, I have been transporting this self there, watching the younger me. Reaching out to that girl, talking to her. Telling her she's ok. Telling her how precious she is .... hugging her. Telling her she is loved. Music is in me, now as it was then. Music is healing. Healing is ongoing, the wounds are opened at times, emotions, circumstances, memories, aging open them up again. Music helps the process, brings relief. I am grateful for music. I am grateful for the music in me.

I tell them. I write it down for them. It is not just my history, it is their family history. I want to make videos for them so they can pass it along.
Where Are They?
The supreme court had the chance to block this...now united states citizens anywhere, any state, can sue anyone who helps a woman in texas get an abortion after 6 weeks. Most women don't even know they're pregnant until after that time.
People can now sue anyone who has talk to her about an abortion, including counselors, friends, spouses, anyone who gave her a ride to get the abortion, the clinic, any employee or volunteer of the clinic. A person anywhere can now sue anyone connected to the abortion for $10,000 along with court costs.
This will now spread like wildfire to other states. Keep in mind, there' no focus on sex ed in schools, there's no focus on promoting safe sex, using condoms. This will not matter if rape or incest.
There is no focus on teaching boys not to look at girls as something to conquer, a notch on their belt. There is no focus on helping those mothers and the babies. It's not even a pro-birth law.
Every time a woman is pregnant, every time she gives birth, she risks her life. Having a baby is the equivilant of major surgery. How many men would they send home after major surgery with a tiny, helpless being to take care of .... along with the home, whoever else is in that home, many are employed outside the home.
There is nothing pro-life about this....these women and babies are on their own. Where are the volunteers to help these women get to dr appointments? Where are they when she gets sick and bedridden, where are they when she gets complications?
Where are they when she needs food and shelter? Where are they when the baby is premature? Where are they when the baby needs to be hospitalized? Where are volunteers when there's no formula, no baby food, no diapers? Where are they when the mom suffers from postpartum depreression? Let's look at the timing of this...during a pandemic! Really! Where do these women go to for checkups at the doctor and be safe? Where do they go if they have to be hospitalized while pregnant? Where does a woman go to have the baby that is safe? Where does she go to have the baby that's safe? Where does she take the baby after the baby's born and needs checkups? Who pays for all of this? Is she now considered a leach because she has to take advantage of the system in order to survive? Or do we now cut any kind of assistance she and her child needs because of this law? Who cares for her if she has to be out where she didn't choose to be, at a doctor's office for prenatal care, in the hospital, at doctor's office for her care and baby's care, exposing herself to covid? And now that she has had covid, will she be able to get healthcare? What about the baby? If the baby has complications because of covid, if the baby survives, who takes care of the baby with life long illnesses, disease, suffering because of exposure to and getting covid? Where are the volunteers when she has other children that she can no longer afford to feed? Where are they when she loses her home that she works hard keep a home that is not large enough anymore? Where are they when the spouse, or significant other leaves her because she is forced to have a baby that he told her to "get rid of" Where are they when she is raped by a relative and now has to have the baby? Where are they when she's attacked and raped, pregnant and now has to have this baby? Where are they? Where are they?

"Getting old is not for sissies." Betty Davis
Betty Davis always played a tough lady. As I get older, I am getting to know what she meant in her quote. Physically, it isn't easy to see the changes in your body. The aches and pains that pop up.
We have health challenges, we have family and friends who do, we have lost some. Change is constant.
Our society focuses on youth. What ever happened to experience mattering? Respect for those who are older, they have walked the path the younger people are walking.
Why should women feel they need to alter their apperance to try to look younger? Most women who get plastic surgery look like they've just had their face stretched, after awhile, you can hardly see their eyes. And they can no longer smile.
Our society is all about acceptance, but not for older women.
I say, we should be proud of lines on our face, aging of our hands, they are a reminder of where we have been. Really, a map of our life. Why should we be ashamed?
A little makeup, hair color, whatever makes you feel better about yourself.
Just don't let society make you feel obligated, to feel guilty.
Be yourself, if others don't like it, who cares? Seems like that's their problem.

Merry Christmas! Please, if you adopt a dog, give as gift, they are not gifts that you just return. Adopting a pet is a serious decision. Shelters fill up with pets after the holidays, the novelty wears off, kids may get bored with them. Puppies are cute, they grow up, they grow older. I have had pets all of my life...they are family. They give unconditional love.
