The Gampel Pavilion was silent from the roars that filled the room an hour ago. The uconn womans basketball went against the seton hall womans basketball winning a game of 96-36. You were sitting on the sideline seats like you were benched during a game when Paige came out of the locker room late, hair damp, hoodie half zipped. Sheâs worn down, not just physically but mentally, expectations, media, pressure. You were the one waiting for her, showing her she doesnât have to perform here.
âYou waited long just to see me exhausted and half-dead?â she spoke, her voice had a teasing tone, the corner of the left side of her lips slowly smirking. You could see the light blush on her cheeks. It wasn't obvious if you were far but being right there it was noticeable. âPlease. Iâve seen you worse, like last week when you nearly face planted after practice!â you responded, teasing her back softly smiling as you stood up. Paige was full on grinning at this point as she leaned in her voice got quieter not like a whisper but still it wasn't in her loud teasing tone like before âYeah, but you still thought i looked good, didnât you?â you let out a little laugh rolling your eyes âMaybe i didâ she smiled âThan maybe this was worth the wait after allâ her voice was quiet now, she sounded relaxed and comfortable in a way.
Yâall were now sitting together on the seats, it was silent only the sounds of yâall breathing filling your ears, she leaned back relaxing into the seat as her waist extended out a bit you could feel her looking at you causing you to turn around smiling âwhat?â ânothing, just.. I don't know it's different with you. Ya know I don't have to be âPaige Bueckersâ right now. I can just.. be? i guessâ she spoke pausing a few times struggling a bit on how to word what she was speaking, you waited looking at her softly you kept your eyes on her as she kept focusing on different things like you, the court, the lights, her hands. âThatâs kinda the point, you donât have to prove anything hereâ
You responded smiling softly as you spoke, adjusting the way you were sitting from sitting forward to now sitting with your legs crossed in the seat facing back looking at Paige.
Her hand slid up right next to yours on the seat handles between yâall her fingers barely touching the side of your left hand. It was like you could hear your heartbeat in your ears your chest aching, were you inlove with your bestfriend? âYo-â she stopped clearing her throat âi..uh- i was trying to say do you ever think i donât know maybe this.. us. feels like more than just friends.. hanging out?â She spoke, her voice trembling slightly with fear as she spoke. You could tell by her face she was scared of what your response was gonna be like she was saying something she shouldâve kept in the notes app on her ipad.
âOnly everytime you look at me like thatâ you were quiet with your response feeling a slight feeling of relief as you spoke. âLike whatâ her face was now relaxing slowly still holding some type of guard up. âLike youâre daring me to do something about it.â She smirked, her voice going quieter, more vulnerable âMaybe i amâ y'alls eyes locked, her smirk fading into something more serious as you grew quiet.
âSoâŠyou gonna do something about it, or keep me guessinâ she responded, returning back to her joking playful tone as she smirked again. Your heart was racing, your throat going dry as you swallowed your spit back before leaning forward smirking your voice quiet âguessing dosent seem like your styleâ she leaned closer yalls faces inches apart her breath hitting against your upper lip as your breath would hit her bottom lip âexactly.â
You leaned in your barriers going down as you couldnât hold back anymore, y'alls lips connected as she leaned forward more placing her hand on the left side of your neck her thumb swiping, you let out a breath through your nose as she pulled back âwe canât do this hereâ she said quickly standing up, you followed her stance as she led y'all out of the pavilion into a night full of confessions and passion..
