The height of 60s and 70s fashion. The problem was with the company as times changed into the 80s they were a bit complacent. I think around the 90s they dissappeared off the high street. A bit like woolies now, in that the brand still exists online in UK. But there are still stores around europe. A brand that fell away from the british high street. Of course appeared in Specials song, the opposite to the scene at the time.

So this was a company that exists on the Uk high street in one guise for over 150 years , it formed in 1875 and closed in 2011. But to be fair its failure was way before that. The store had a massive presence on the Uk high streets. Originally under different names but same owndership it aquired Kwik Save stores and also brought other stores from other retailers. The problem with that was that they were referred to the merge's comission and they were instructed to sell stores. The company did get in to some difficulties and sold out to the co-op group (manchester) in 2011 and then dissapeared from the high street. Somerfield is the only company in this list I have worked for. I think the overall company was that in expanding so quickly in the early 00s the company did not seek to invest in the stores, so I was working in a store which had a lift. Without the lift there was no way to get stock on to the shop floor. Also very poor infrastructure and no monitoring of waste. Also staff would mostly in stores I was familiar with would be employed through job centre schemes.
It does remind me of the co-op group at the moment though, ironcially the company that brought it as they have been hacked due to poor infrastructure of IT systems.
Introduction.
In doing articles it feels left right and centre I end up with lists of things and then have to run with them. So I was born in the 70s and the mind plays tricks in that people will mention stores or companies that no longer exist. This seems to have been happening alot of late, so people telling me where they used to work. I think also the Uk high street at the moment is undergoing a kind of dormant period, so now most of the bigger shopping centres are now out of towns. That means that central areas that used to be the hubs are now dormant or getting run down. The problem is the property companies just sit with them left empty. Inb a way its a shame there could not be compulsory purchases by councils for stores that have been dormant for so many years. I mean thats quite radical and it will never happen. Anyway staying on the point I will just randomly post companies, to give a background of nostalgia alongside my other posts.
