ADRENALINE  SURGES  IN  HIS  CHEST:   a through-line of panic setting every gasping breath alight.  the air,  thick with  the smell of burning  and  singed rust,  fills his lungs,  makes it hard to think through the  engine rev  of his pulse.  within seconds,  this dusty underground corner of jedha will be flooded with  imperial stormtroopers,  scout troopers,  combat assault tanks,  tank troopers,  AT-STs.  there’s a 75,000 credit bounty on bodhi’s head, and  finn  ?    well,  finn’s worth  nothing.  he’s no one.  all he knows,  with a  blazing, single-minded intensity  he’s never felt about anything in his life is that  HE  DOESN’T  WANT  TO  DIE.  not here,  on an imperial kyber mining planet caught in the crossfires of stormtrooper blasters.  he’s not going to let either of them die,  or be captured        the fear of  DISASSEMBLY,  RECONDITIONING,  REPROGRAMMING  sears deeper than the fear of  death           and for once,  he’s grateful for the mantra they drilled into his  very marrow  until it became every other waking thought:  FN-2187,   FAILURE  IS  NOT  AN  OPTION.

❛     i’m gonna get us out of here,  i swear.     ❜     bodhi’s in  no state to fight,  whatever happened to him in saul gerrera’s cell with that                 monster,  bodhi had screamed for what seemed like an  eternity.  and then he’d gone  utterly silent,  which had been  infinitely worse  than the screaming. 

         poe has never liked snow. the cold seeps through the thick layer of his jacket and drags him back a good fifteen years. back to a time where he had an ambition bigger than he could wrap his hands around. he’s always been in the 𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐗𝐘 𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒, but here he is always reminded of how he can never do it alone, and how misguided he was.  there’s nothing left but a rumour, if not a particularly infamous one, of the one runner who blew up a whole factory to prove a point.

         when they fall back to the bar, he keeps his back as close to the wall, an old habit he pick ed up from his year in the rough environs; to look out for himself but especially finn, who’s beside him, a bold shining beacon of goodness, saying wonderful things about him that seemed out of place in this environ.      with one hand he catches finn’s arm, and with the other he rubs the back of his neck.    ❛   i didn’t think you were, but i wouldn’t hold it against you if you 𝐃𝐈𝐃.  ❜ 

       ❛   the 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇 is, i did sneak away from home at sixteen, got myself on a transport here.  ❜ his gaze slips over the other patrons and he sidles closer to prevent being overheard.   ❛   but i didn’t do it because i wanted to smuggle spice; i did it because i wanted to 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏 it.  ❜

ONE  OF  THE  THINGS  FINN  HAS  REALIZED  in his post-stormtrooper life :  being human is  messy.  unruly.  it’s a constant battle between  WHO  YOU  ARE   and   WHO  YOU  WERE,  the mistakes you’ve made,  the expectations placed on you,  the  desperate hope  that  tomorrow will be better.  it’s a lot of  pressure  for someone who has only known the  FREEDOM  of  autonomy  for a mere fraction of his   existence.  poe catches his arm and finn’s chest aches with the need to be just a little nearer.  

here is a man  full of stories,  full of life  and so alive.  he wants to hear all his adventures, wayward or otherwise, wants to sit and listen with  rapt attention  to every last detail.  

❛     SO  IT’S  AN  INSTINCT,   A  FEELING . . .     ❜     attempting to grasp the  concept  of the  COSMOS  ITSELF   is like counting stars and grains of sand           anywhere that you could  begin  feels like the wrong place to start.   finn inhales,  slows his pulse,  slips into the lull and rhythm of his breathing,  of the sound of his  HEARTBEAT,  KEEPING  HIM  ALIVE  to a tempo that echoes the frequencies of the  universe.   HE  CAN  FEEL  IT.    he just doesn’t know how to  speak it.     ❛     how do you . . .    how do you make it  listen  to you  ?     ❜
