Lancelot’s in this sort of weird middle place?? He’s not exactly super quick to fall for anyone, nor is he slow as molasses about it. When he clicks with someone and they make him happy and happen to be attractive to him, Lancelot will absolutely develop a crush. Truly falling deeply for someone takes time, trust, and getting to know them properly.

That said, Lancelot is on the dense side when it comes to noticing that others have feelings for him. If he does notice the signs, he ends up thinking it’s just wishful thinking on his part.

Lancelot has two separate preferences for dates! On the one hand, he absolutely adores going out with a specific fun thing to do in mind. Hiking, ice skating, exploring a festival, watching the stars, and stuff like that! For hiking specifically, he considers it to be extra nice if there’s a picnic packed for when they get to their destination, so I suppose that would be his true “ideal” date.

On the other hand, Lancelot also likes private alone time with whoever he’s dating. Just spending time together, leaning against each other on the couch and reading separate books makes him happy enough. He likes dinner dates, too, but tends to prefer them at home than out and about, since he likes that sense of privacy.

But, really, Lancelot isn’t terribly picky about dates so much as long as he’s with someone he loves.

YOURS.  does your muse get protective easily?

Absolutely. Lancelot is a protective person by nature, whether we’re talking about friends, crushes or loves. He wants to keep the people he cares about safe, even to the detriment of himself. When he and Vane were stranded up in the mountains in a long, drawn out storm, he wanted Vane to have all of their rations and go on without him. It didn’t matter to him that it was likely that he himself would die, so long as Vane could live on.

oh. finding the right words to respond to gran’s sweet–awkward, but sweet–attempt at offering up valentine’s day chocolates would take a bit of thought. their gratitude wasn’t necessary in lancelot’s mind: helping gran through that fight with the hydra felt as natural as breathing. there wasn’t any reason not to help the young captain, when he thought the world of them and couldn’t imagine a world without them in it.

he cared deeply for them and didn’t want to make them feel any more uncertain or awkward. a soft smile found its way onto lancelot’s face, and he reached out a hand to ruffle gran’s hair.

✦ –– “ happy valentine’s day, vane--i may not be a pretty girl with a crush, but i hope that my attempts at chocolate making can bring you some measure of joy today. i... well, i cherish all that you do for me, and i can’t be sure how far i would be now without your sunny disposition and support. ”

[ as a man that happens to be more or less married to his duties as a knight, lancelot is incredibly prone to forgetting about valentine’s day completely. for the most part, he only gives out sweets on white day, and it just isn’t really on his radar.

typically, whoever ( out of those close to him ) gives him sweets first in the day will get a surprised reaction--and he openly admits to gran/djeeta at least three years running that it completely slipped his mind that it was valentine’s day at all.

Cain can’t resist giving the other male a confident wink and smile combo when he’s complimented. So Cain couldn’t surprise Lancelot with his bizarre charisma just yet… Since someone had decided to prepare the dragon knight ahead of their meeting. Cain mentally grumbled, his smirk still remaining on his face so as to hide his disappointment. 

“Don’t mention it. They were our guests in Idelva, and I’ve come to grow fond of captain.” He wouldn’t get into the whole ‘feels like I want to stay with the crew forever because I feel a strong sense of belonging’ bit now. It would be inappropriate to dump all that on his new host. But Lancelot wouldn’t have to worry about the crew coming back safe and sound so long as Cain had any say in the matter.

When his hand connects with Lancelot’s shoulder, Cain immediately notes a change in the way Lancelot held himself. Cain’s hand lingers for a few moments so as to make certain that it seemed as though Lancelot was rather comfortable with it. He’d make note of it for later, but not comment on it now. 

“Hmm, hmm… Are you sure I wouldn’t be ruining things for you? I wouldn’t want you to break schedule just for me. But then again, if you’re not careful, I could get into mischief, right? Heh heh! Just kidding! I’d be glad to wait for your schedule to be free so you can give me a personal tour. I assume you know the best food places too. And that’s the biggest thing for me when I visit somewhere I’ve never been. I suppose the cooks here are of top quality, right?”

of course, lancelot notes the way that his guest’s touch lingers for an extra few moments longer than necessary: he’s an observant enough knight, even if he doesn’t understand why it remained. not that the extra contact made him uncomfortable, but the gesture stuck with him.

✦ –– “ you might end up waiting far longer than you bargained for... how about this: if you promise not to get into too much mischief while i’m gone, i can make sure to have everything all rearranged within the hour. ”

if left to his own devices for too long, lancelot knows that he might get caught up in all manner of tasks without meaning to; the less time that he gives himself to fix everything up, the better for both of them. cain could very well end up waiting until night fell, and that wouldn’t make for a very good impression.

changing his schedule won’t be particularly difficult, anyway. he didn’t have any real meetings planned for the day, and vane would jump at the chance to take over some of his duties, especially since it meant “lancey” would take a break.

Silas had been doing his usual thing. He didn’t stay in one place for too long and usually because of that, he rather much stay out in the wild than to take up a room of one the inns. It was something about being closest to nature but also always a learning type experience — the more he knew about his surroundings the easier identifying some things to him might be. His current stay had also been one of the longer stays he’s had in one place for a while now. The blame was a monster that was worth his time, but it was one of those tricky to catch types. Especially for him since he primarily used a rifle, and the thing was speedy. 

So he had been training on whatever monsters came to him at night with his spear but last thing he expected was another human. Not that he knew right away, it took him going silent, and picking up the faint sounds of footsteps approaching with the sounds of fallen leaves being crumpled and some sticks being crunched.  

He got his hopes on it being a monster, preparing his spear in advance but when the light of the other’s lantern leaked through and became brighter, he sighed and stabbed his weapon into the ground.

“If it’s meyer lookin’ for, congrats you did it.” 

in this environment, lancelot knew for a fact that he was at a disadvantage. the only light he had to go by was that of his lantern, and the monsters of this forest that roamed at this hour had methods of maneuvering around to catch their prey with ease. even if the disturbances were caused by another person, they would be at the advantage: they had chosen to act at this hour, and perhaps had training working within darkness such as this.

which was, of course, part of why lancelot volunteered. to put the knights of this village at risk could cause unnecessary loss of life. despite the danger, the captain had a swiftness about him, quick reflexes and a graceful fighting style that could at least partially make up for the situation.

by the time he came upon another person, one of his swords had been drawn, while the other carried his lantern. it dripped with blood from a monster he had encountered on the way, and lancelot would never admit out loud that he was glad for it. if he had drawn his weapon on sight, it would have seemed as if he was threatening the stranger. this way, he was prepared, but not overtly hostile.
