It's been several days and I still can't stop crying every time I hear Arirang in the middle of Body to Body. Fully choking down sobs when they had the traditional singers and instrumentalists perform it live at Gwanghwamun (which, as soon as I heard the song on the album, was exactly what I expected them to do). Notably, I've seen a video recording of a performance of Arirang move an entire classroom to tears, and pretty much every version of it I've heard except BTS' Kcon Paris version has made me tear up, but this is on a whole different level. They dropped Arirang in the middle of an entire club banger and not only is it completely seamless somehow, it completely changes the meaning and emotional trajectory of the song from a concert/party anthem to an ode to the emotional and cultural distance by coming together to share music in a large communal space. The layers of meaning are endless.
