Yes yes yes!!! As an asexual person, it drives me mad how disrespected aro, ace, and aroace labels are. Because if you don't respect a fictional character's identity, chances are you won't do that to an actual person.

This is a personal pet peeve, and disclaimer I'm completely fine with shipping, I also loathe when every single connection has to be viewed as alloromantic and/or allosexual. Soulmates can and are also fully platonic.

#There was an aroace main character that I liked in a fandom I was in #and that character was entirely ignored outside of being shipped in a very allistic (and often hetero) way #I remember a lot of people saying they just saw the character as bisexual #telling aroace people is was problematic to say they were aroace because *arbitrary reason* *arbitrary reason*.#Most of them were mad that people wanted them to see the character as aroace at all.#There was a petition by the fandom to change her sexuality #And a lot of them still regularly bug the creators to change her identity and put her in an allistic hereto relationship with a man.#This was in 2025 and is still happening...#It's really shocking to see how much aphobia there is out there even among queer or queer positive people if they aren't “Normal” enough
