sticking out like a sore thumb usually doesn’t phase troy yet he really has overwhelmed himself ; what he thought seemed to be a simple task has undone him. picking some pajamas for dolly really couldn’t be this hard, could it? he just wants to give her a small gift, which sounds small enough, though he’s making a mountain out of a molehill. swallowing harshly, he stares blankly at the few options he’s already chosen in his grasp before gradually lifting his gaze. his eyes lay on the first person around and he wanders over, obviously needing direction. “um, ‘scuse me. i really need some advice.”

the few beats of silence in response were enough to leave jed in regret over asking such a thing in the first place. he should’ve known he was pushing his luck, but the lack of clarity —all the back and forth, on and off, hot and cold— was just so frustrating. in the same vein, declan’s ultimate answer didn’t offer much else. it was this that made the moments to follow so jarring. he’d half expected a cold goodbye, but the gesture was quite the opposite. it was the sort of touch that he could really only hope for and dream of for ages, one that could almost fool him into believing someone might actually care about him — but this was declan. it could mean anything or nothing at all. jed had to remind himself of exactly that before he could conjure up anymore false hopes, and offered a rather misplaced sigh and a small shake of his head. however, it wasn’t out of dejection. in fact, it was followed by a meek smile and a lighthearted laugh in disbelief. “you’re so fucking confusing, declan— do you realize that?” an understatement, really, but with the way jed’s expression seemed to visibly reflect adoration as he reached for the other male’s hand, it felt more like a compliment than anything. “but…” he began, suddenly so fixated on their hands after having loosely laced his fingers through the spaces between declan’s as though it were the most natural instinct for him, “i guess some tea wouldn’t hurt.”

     gus purses his lips, nodding gently in agreement, though his words don’t quite match up completely. “don’t get me wrong, you’re right – that’s what you have to do, but.. sometimes it is hard cutting someone out so easily like that. that or i’ve just been like, i dunno a big coward my entire life.” he shakes his head, a soft chuckle to follow as to lighten his self deprecating comment. though he’s quick to dive into declan’s troubles, propping his chin in his hand as he listens. it wasn’t like the other was saying anything that was shocking. they were normal feelings gus figured everyone went through with at least a few of their exes. as declan continues, his lips curve downwards, brows furrowing as well. “good for you though.. it’s not easy doing that. like that’s what i’m talking about – obviously the feelings were there, but like.. i dunno it isn’t his fault that he wasn’t ready to be out, but that doesn’t excuse how you were treated at all, you know?? it just sucks like.. i feel like timing is everything and it fuckin’ sucks when you meet someone you get on with really well but like everything else in life doesn’t match up or feel right?? i feel like it’s almost harder when shit like that happens sometimes, because you don’t want to end it, but like what else can you do??” he stares into his popcorn bowl for a touch longer than anticipated, a sigh huffing out past his lips. “has he shown interest in trying to rekindle things??“

DECLAN: the trick is to have a whole closet dedicated to wigs

          theodore’s hand claps down on their shoulder, giving it a friendly shake as he slides up next to them at the bar. he gives the bartender a small nod and an ale is quickly being dispensed into a pint glass – the perks of frequenting and playing at this bar. “i can’t believe you actually showed up!!” he laughs. theo murmurs a thank you to the bartender through his grin as he brings the glass to his lips. he takes a moment to look around, the crowd usually dwindles pretty quickly after their set and being in the back with his drum kit always played in theo’s favour – he did not like the attention some of the others got from being up front in the band. eyes meet the others again and he tilts his head some, “when was the last show you even came to – or have you ever??” the words leave his mouth in a playful manner, nudging them. “come on, what are you drinking?? your next one’s on me.”
