Continuation from the Deneuve's daughter OC anon, I hope you don't mind. Her alias is Deuce, but started using Deneuve when she works with Near (until DN New World timeline). A passive-agressive yet soft-spoken individual (roughly like Shinobu KNY), at first she doesn't care much about the case (and just in it to spite L's legacy). hello! this blog was dead for awhile as life is crazy and honestly the inbox was empty so i kind of forgot all about it! but i'm here again and happy to help :) thank you for your patience.

so to start, you say she was once an occupant at wammy's but wammy's is only open to orphans. then i kept reading and you mention her father, deneuve is dead. which is possible, as his status is never confirmed in the series! so okay so far backstory-wise. however, her reasoning for L is a bit skewed! L didn't "take" her father's alias, rather he "won" it after beating deneuve in a detective war. you could say she is unaware of the fact and is just misunderstand L if you'd like to keep that detail, however.

i also wonder about her involvement in the case if she doesn't care much about it, but you say she is in it to spite L's legacy. i don't understand what that means, as her aiding the case would be something L would want an wouldn't be spiteful to him at all. is she there trying to sabotage the case? as that reasoning would make more sense if she is there to be spiteful.

next question is what exactly does she as a character provide to the case? for near to recruit her, she would need to have some type of use. what skill set does she bring to the investigation?

my first advice would be that all the orphans' real identities are kept secret. not even roger, as the caretaker, knew everyone's actual names. i like to think that as soon as they go to wammy's, the orphans discard their old names/lives and start over through their aliases.

the wammy house is a home for gifted children, so even if they aren't extremely intelligent like L, they can be gifted in other areas and still be welcomed into the orphanage so don't feel like you have to make them with that in mind.

another thing to keep in mind is that your oc doesn’t have to be a good guy. look at mello and matt, or even beyond birthday for example.

i can't really help with personalities, as i feel like that's a tall order. if you want help creating an oc from scratch, i think i need more information to work with. i can however help with alias/specialty ideas!

their name and the format of it i think would depend on where they are currently living and also the ethnicity of their father and mother.

for example, typically a child will take their father's surname. so if the father is japanese, their surname will be his japanese one. and vice versa if the father is irish.

next will be where they're currently living. if they're living in japan and are deciding to raise your oc there, i expect they'll give your oc a regular japanese name, with maybe an irish middle name as a homage to their irish parent.

a good example of a character with a meshed name like this tamaki from ohshc. his full name is "rené tamaki richard de grantaine suoh" but in his case, he took both his parents' surnames. if you're familiar with the series, then you know tamaki goes by a specific name depending on where he is to fit in better. so while in japan he goes by "tamaki" but when he lived with his mother, he went by "rené".

first, i highly suggest reading this post i received about shinigami eyes.

i think it balances it, but also since she is not a genius and will be born with them… as a child if she openly talks about seeing names of people above their heads (she would think its natural, since she’s seen them since she was born) i wouldn’t be surprised if she was later thought to have something wrong with her by the people around her.

religious people would think she’s possessed, while others would simply think she’s crazy. either way, be prepared for her to be shipped off to an asylum or therapist or something.

i think it sounds like a cool idea! i agree that making a relationship with light and another character believable is a challenge. for it to be one where his feelings are genuine, they’d definitely have to meet pre-kira.

as a teenager, light is still really plastic and full of himself, so this new misa would have to call him out on his bullshit and basically just try and get light to relax around him and be himself.

a big no for this one, unfortunately. having a character just like a main one (practically based off of them) is never a good thing. it reads mary sue immediately. i don’t know how many stories i’ve read where an oc is like L —from the way he sits to his love for sweets— and it’s cringy every time.

to me, it just feels unoriginal and lacks creativity. but it’s no crime to give them similar personality traits— just do not go overboard and make their personality exactly the same. and please don’t give her the same quirks either; quirks are unique to an individual.

as for your question, i’d say that this oc is a bit too much like light. though you say he doesn’t have light’s super-extremeo intelligence, his base personality sounds exactly like light to the dot. sans the hacking hobby, of course.

i’d suggest maybe blending him into the background more. where light was an extrovert and the most popular kid in school, oc could be more of an introvert and pass as a homebody. of course he can still be charming when he wants to be, and he can also be handsome, but can hide it with a pair of clunky glasses and ill-fitting tasteless clothes. perhaps oc isn’t big on attention?

i wasn’t sure who all you meant by “characters” so i just did the wammy boys + light. if i missed someone, let me know and i’ll add them!

LIGHTprobably as means to an end. i don’t think he values it too much, considering he was engaged to misa: someone he only thought of as a useable piece to his game. when it comes to someone he truly loves, however, i’m sure he would want to get married to them. it’d be a way to mark them as “his” and they’d have a nice rock on their finger to let others know that they’re taken already. yeah.. he’s a little possessive, i imagine lol

Llike light, i don’t think L would think much of marriage. he may see the reason people do it and the symbolism behind it but.. i doubt he’d care too much if he and the person he loved was married or not. he’s content with just being together with this person, and if it came down to it— L would just give his partner a ring and they’d say their married now. no need for a fancy ceremony or a pastor.

MELLOdoubt the thought has ever crossed his mind. mello has been so caught up with “becoming L” and then the kira case to really slow down and think about things like that. i’m sure, during those days when he was alone after running away from wammy’s, he’d lay down in bed and think about how things could have gone if his life was normal. get married, start a family.. mello probably would have liked the idea of finding someone he loves and getting married to them, but did he ever think it’d actually happen? i doubt it.

MATTmatt thinks casually of the thought of marriage. he doesn’t care if he doesn’t get married. and he also doesn’t care if he does get married. it happens or it doesn’t. end of story. it’s up to his partner to decide if they’re gonna take things “further” with their relationship in such a way, putting a label on each other like “husband/wife” or “husband/husband”. matt won’t care unless his partner feels strongly about it.

no, i wouldn’t consider any of that to be “sueish” though if you plan to do any of that, there are certain things that should probably be taken into consideration first!

first, there is nothing wrong with your oc being ranked in the top ten at wammy’s. just make sure they have the intelligence to back it up and refrain from taking mello, near, or matt’s spot.

next, your oc can be friends with any of the wammy boys, no problem! but they’re all kind of standoffish in their own way and can be kind of hard to befriend depending on your oc’s personality and interests.

for example, if your oc is good friends with near, i doubt they’d be able to befriend mello easily if at all. mello really dislikes near and anyone having to do with him. an example of that would be when mello killed off the majority of the spk members in the series. i’m sure that your oc could maybe befriend matt at least, but they’d most likely only become acquaintances considering matt’s loyalty to mello.

if your oc is friends with mello, they will more than likely become friends with matt along the way (the same would go if they were friends wth matt). however, them becoming friends with near as well probably wouldn’t work out since mello might think of that as betrayal. if you’re lucky and your oc has a “no nonsense” type of personality and is close enough to mello, i could see them talking sense into him.

i mentioned before that oc’s with certain personalities probably wouldn’t mesh well with some of the wammy boys.

an example would be an oc with a more shy/quiet personality. they’d most likely work really well with near and maybe matt, but not so much with mello. he’s very rude and rash, and someone who is sensitive probably wouldn’t get along with his blunt nature.

ah well, if you want to be a member of the task force, then you have to be a member of the national police agency, aka the NPA. the japanese task force is a branch of that, that was created for the sole purpose of finding kira.

the existence of the task force is not known to the public, so you can’t let people know that you’re on it and etc. the names and personal information of all its members are also kept secret, so upon entering you’re given a fake id to use for safety purposes.

take into account that a lot of people were initially a part of the task force, but once light got really ruthless and started killing anyone that decided to go after him, the members were given the option to leave without any worry for consequences.

if you have an oc that is part of the task force, they’re going to need to be dedicated to the case. they should be strong mentally and ready to take risks. i’m not saying they have to be brave or extremely intelligent; they should just be aware of what they’re getting into and that this is not a game or a cakewalk.

actually, if they enter the task force while thinking that this case is no biggie, or that it should be easy as pie then i think it’d make for some good character development later on. the case would help open their eyes and eventually lead to them becoming more mature and level-headed.

give your oc a reason for wanting to take a part in the kira case. especially if they have a family, because they could possibly get killed during this investigation, not to mention it’d take up a lot of their time. their reason for definitely wanting to join it doesn’t have to be entirely meaningful or anything.

they could want to do it to for justice.

because not many people will; a “someone has to do it” kind of outlook

some sort of self-driven goal. maybe something happened in their past and they want to solve this case to make up for their past mistakes/failures.

to gain experience or prove themselves capable

maybe they’re lowkey suicidal or don’t really have a care for the risks involved

or perhaps they’re just bored and have nothing better to do

if it’s not too late, i may have some suggestions! though you said he was half-british and half-german, you didn’t mention where exactly he is from so i made a list of english and german names for you to look at.

i couldn’t really see it happening, mainly due to L being a loner at heart. he’s known as the world’s greatest detective, not part of the world’s greatest detective team. he prefers to work solo (sans the presence of watari), that much is obvious considering he only reaches for outside help unless it’s truly necessary/part of a ploy to lure out the suspect.

not once did he reach out to anyone at wammy’s for help, nor did he attempt to contact naomi misora, who helped him a great deal with beyond birthday’s case.

if he did hold an attraction for someone he knew previously (at wammy’s) he’d probably keep tabs on them just to see how they’re doing every now and then. plus he probably wouldn’t want to involve them, considering how high risk the kira case is.

i only think it’s overpowering/unrealistic if they have them without having made a deal with a shinigami or without having ownership of a death note. it’d also be op if the person didn’t lose half of their lifespan (like they’re supposed to) in exchange for them.

that is (canon-wise) the only way to receive shinigami eyes, with the exception of beyond birthday, but i don’t think using him would be a good excuse to say that your character was “born” with their shinigami eyes. tbh, i think beyond birthday being born with them is complete bullshit so it upsets me that that was never fully explained, aha.

anyway, it’s perfectly okay for your oc to have shinigami eyes, so long as they follow the canon rules:

have ownership of a death note, thus access to a shinigami

you will lose half of your lifespan in exchange for the shinigami eyes

if you’re to relinquish ownership of the death note, you’ll lose all memories involving it and the power of shinigami eyes. your lifespan will not be restored

you will not be able to see the life spans of other death note owners, nor your own one

your vision will increase 3.6 times your current vision

you can see the name and lifespan of people in photographs, but not drawings

you cannot see the name and lifespan of an already deceased person

the shinigami eyes also have certain restrictions to take note of. they can ony show a person’s name and lifespan under certain circumstances:

will show: the front of someone’s face, a side view of someone’s face, if someone is wearing sunglasses while the rest of their face is visible, and if only half of the person’s face is shown vertically.

massively cute, obviously. lol

light would be simple and neat, one arm acting as a pillow for his partner while his other one stays securely around their waist, pulling them closer to his body. the numbness his limbs will eventually go through would be worth it in his eyes,, he’d stay in that position all night unless his partner shifts around.

l would be a bit more cuddly and smothering. his legs would probably get tangled with his partners, and both of his arms would stay wrapped around their waist. sometimes he’d just cling to them like they were a body pillow, resting his head on their chest or stomach.

mello wouldn’t be too big on lots of body contact, so while he’s laid on his side facing them, he’d keep one arm tucked under his partner’s pillow and other loosely around their waist. he’s mostly like to roll over onto his back later on however.

matt would be similar to l in the parts where his legs would be tangled with his partner’s and how he’d probably use them like a body pillow. though one of his legs would be wrapped around them. both of his arms would be wrapped around them, and he’d keep them under his partner’s shirt for warmth.
