Dean and Louise Join Jacquel & the Older Generation – 16th August 2026
Dean and Louise walked into the lounge just as Jacquel finished speaking. Bob and Paul looked up. Jacquel gave them both a small nod.
“Speak of the devil,” she said. “We were just talking about your party performance.”
Louise raised an eyebrow and sat down opposite her.
“The bit where the sons had their turn,” Jacquel replied. “Bob Jr and Paul Jr. They were careful. Almost too careful.”
Dean sat beside Louise, one arm resting along the back of the sofa.
“They’re not their fathers,” he said. “Yet.”
“Give them time. We weren’t born confident either.”
“They asked first. That was new. Most of you lot just walk up.”
Jacquel pointed a finger at her, amused.
“And you let them. Same as always. You’re good at that, girl. Always were.”
Dean glanced at Louise, then back at Jacquel.
“Party rules are party rules. Doesn’t mean I have to enjoy watching the next generation practise on her.”
Paul laughed under his breath.
“You’re still possessive. Some things never change.”
Jacquel leaned forward a little, looking between Dean and Louise.
“The gap is real though. Us old ones still carry the weight of what this place is. The younger ones are learning… but they’re softer. Politer. Not better. Just different.”
“Different isn’t always worse.”
Jacquel held her gaze for a moment, then gave a small, approving nod.
“Maybe. But someone still has to make sure they don’t forget where they came from.”
Dean squeezed Louise’s shoulder gently.
“That’s why you’re still here,” he said to Jacquel.
Jacquel raised her cup in a quiet toast.
