Cas huffs a laugh, breath warm against Dean’s skin. “Why not?”

“Because,” Dean says, holding Cas tighter, pulling him closer. “My prayers don’t get answered. Miracles don’t happen. Not to me.”

“Not a miracle,” Cas says. He runs one hand up and down Dean’s back. “Just very human stubbornness.”

“What?” Dean asks. “How?”

“I argued with the Empty,” Cas says, sliding his hand up into Dean’s hair. “And I won.”

Dean chokes out a laugh. “Okay,” he says. “That does sound like you.” He presses his face into the space between Cas’ neck and his shoulder, takes a shaky breath. “Hey, Cas.”
