Sirius loathed these ridiculous parties that his parents made him go to. It was always the same crap of them trying to show their society friends how much their family was united and blah, blah, blah, even though that couldn’t be further from the truth. And this time it was even worse because it was Halloween and they had made him come dressed as a freaking dog (a sexy dog, that is, since it was him, but either way). So for the first time in forever, he looked ridiculous. And his parents kept dragging him and his brother around to introduce them to that friend who works at the Ministry, and they were wearing those identical smiles and expressions that meant “screw this up and you know what’s going to happen to you at home”, and so he fake smiled as well, while his stupid little brother seemed to actually enjoy being there.

But right now his parents had given him a break from the entire fake happy family thing and he was getting a drink. As the bartender delivered it to him while giving him a wink that he promptly returned, he turned around and saw something, or rather, someone that could actually make his evening better. Marlene Mckinnon, dressed as a really sexy Cat Woman, was standing across the room from him and looking every bit as bored as he was. It had been years since he had last seen her, since she had moved to the United States with her family. He had heard she was back, but he didn’t give it a second thought, because for as far as he was concerned, Marlene Mckinnon was a short kid with braces, an ugly fringe, weird glasses and a quite annoying personality. But apparently, time was very good to her, because now she looked like an 18 year old girl with no braces, no fringe, glasses that didn’t look weird at all and a perfect body. And before he could realize what he was doing, he was already halfway across the room walking towards her, as if she was a magnet.

James still really didn’t feel comfortable in muggle situations.Not because of any sort of superiority complex as Lily used toassume, but only because it made him very uncomfortable and anxiousnot to know what was going on. However, with Lily six months pregnantnow and in full force pregnancy rage, he couldn’t say no to her.Not that he was very good at saying no to her before. 

That was how James Potter ended up walking hand in hand with hispregnant wife through a muggle carnival, trying not to act toosurprised by the sights around him. Lily had convinced him to buy acandyfloss for the two to share, but she was doing most of theeating. James knew better than to interrupt her - he had nearly hadhis hand taken off by trying to reach into a bowl of sweets she waseating. 

Rather, James would just wait for Lily to pull off as much as shewished to give him every once in a while and offer it up to him asthough she suddenly remembered he was there as well. He didn’ttease her for it, as he usually tended to, every time he thoughtabout teasing her for her greedy pregnancy habits he looked down tosee her wide grin as her eyes darted around to see every sight therewas to take in. He knew she had been to a carnival before, since shewouldn’t stop sharing the same memories over and and over until heagreed to go with her, and the pure wonder she still felt took himback to their days at Hogwarts. Every single Hogsmeade trip she hadthat same look on her face - as though she couldn’t believe she wasback there again. 

“James, you should win that. For Fleamont Junior.” Lily lookedup at him with a completely serious face, but her eyes were sparklingwith mischief. 

“For the last time, stop making fun of my father’s name and Iwould rather be six feet underground than put my son through Fleamonthell.” James rolled his eyes at her but couldn’t stop grinningwhich gave no substance to what he hoped was a firmstatement. “Besides, what do you want me to win?”

Lily pointed at a booth where people were throwing balls to knockdown what looked to be completely stable milk bottles. The signadvertised a prize if all the bottles were knocked down - the prizebeing a new teddy bear. 

“Well, I wasn’t Quidditch star James Potter for nothing. I’llwin the bear.” James promised her cockily, giving her a wink beforetaking a piece of candyfloss and sauntering over to the booth,receiving his three balls to throw at the bottles. He took his firstshot, trying very hard to aim and feeling confident that he wouldknock down all of them.

Not a single one budged. 

James shook it off and got read to throw again, drawing his armback far in order to get more power and speed on his ball. The secondball hit the bottles directly in the middle and he was prepared tocelebrate before he noticed the bottles hardly wiggled before notfalling at all. 

Lily could tell he was getting frustrated, as a crease formed inthe middle of his eyebrows and he ran a hand repeatedly through hismessy black hair. If there was one thing everyone knew about James,no matter how much he had grown up from the arrogant young teenager,it was still hard for him to take a blow to his ego. 

Watching him wind up to take another shot at the pyramid ofbottles, Lily mumbled a quiet spell under her breath and watched asthe ball hit the bottles and made them all go flying. James and theman running the game had almost the exact same look of surprise ontheir face before James’ turned to a smirk instead and pointed outthe specific teddy bear he wanted as his prize. The man grunted acongratulations before handing him the the bear. 

“Well, what do you think, will little Monty enjoy his dear olddad’s hard work?” James asked with a grin, handing the prize toLily before wrapping an arm around her shoulder. 

Lily listened to Sirius, about his home life about his fears and his hopes. She listened and never judged, only kept his secrets. Sirius was a loud listener. He could not BELIEVE that Tuney was such a bitch and let her know that James was definitely arrogant but he meant well and he knew for a fact that Lily meant the world to him. But no pressure to date him or anything because it’s up to you, Lily, make your own choices you should be happy.

Sirius braids Lilys hair before class because hers always end up weird and half her hair is out and Sirius knows how to and her hair is so long it always gets in the way especially in potions and in return she does his homework on full moon nights because she’s never heard anything more admirable than that

When Lily and James get together her and Sirius sit together at Quidditch matches and yell louder than anyone there and their voices are hoarse the next day from screaming
