âAnd do you?â Benjamin asked, sudden spark flickering on inside his eyes right before they darkened again. Still, the ring on his finger weighted like it was actually made of stone and not a beautiful gem almost as black as his eyes were. He had to admit, the jewel was something heâd grown pretty fond of and the one thing he had after she left, not that he was ever that santimental. Or perhaps he was since he didnât really want to part with it; there was a certain comfort in caring part of her magic with him. âWhat if I refuse to give it back?â He crossed his arms in front of his chest once more, putting the ring on display that way in all its glory, devouring all light that feel upon it.
He was provoking her but most importantly he was enjoying it. He was calm like the shadows he was so used to hide in but Beatrix was like a wildfire even if sometimes she managed to contain herself and be just a tiny playful spark. His arm reached and grabbed hers just above the elbow, stopping her from walking away. âI donât know what do you want me to say, Bea. I wasnât the one to disappear into the night. No, I was the one followed by rumors instead. The one left to wonder for a long time and if I have met you sooner, I would have asked you âwhyâ but thatâs a question I no longer need to be answered.â He let go of her but kept the intimidating distance between them still.Â
His lips parted again a moment later but realizing there were no more words he wished to say right now, his tongue poked out, going over his lower lip.
A fairly loud hiss left her lips at his bold move. It wasnât a secret that Beatrix hated to be touched just like that and he had triggered her the wrong way just by doing something so simple like that. âLet. Go.â, warned him the same second his fingers touched her elbow, even if he was already pulling away. A stupid move really, which made her wonder if Benjamin was at all with his right mind or not. âYouâre asking the wrong questions, as always. You can do whatever you please, Benjamin. But my response will be different. And do me a favor and donât ask what that will be because you already know.â
Not so long ago, when she had felt him for the first time, Beatrix was overwhelmed with feeling even more stuck at this place. It was a dangerous game and in all of her life she had never expected to be forced into one that she had long since left behind her back. Fuck this fucking town. âOh, Benjamin, I donât want you to say anything.â She took a step back, head shaking in finally disappointment. âI just felt that youâd have the balls to come and face me from the start, rather go and hide into your favorite shadows like you had always done. Apparently, some things never will change. Maybe I shouldâve left a lot more sooner then I did.â Eyes didnât miss the way his tongue went over his lower lip but the witch did nothing before moving on seconds later, lifting her head fiercely towards him. âOr youâll say that you were just being a gentleman? Lie that you donât feel anything towards me? Go ahead. Amuse me with lies.â
