As the snow crunched beneath my feet and Hunter panted at my side, I could hear as the howls of the wind faded as we made our way into the forest we knew so dearly. We had to travel further than the last in our search but we got to our goal in the end, although the sound of Hunter dragging them across the snow rang loud and clear, it did not bother me, they had it coming anyhow. It was only matter of time before the cold took them, it was better I did, at least this way they weren’t going to waste. I looked behind us at the vast landscape of snow as we walked, a fading trail of red, I couldn’t help but smile. We would come back out here in a few weeks, like we always did, to find someone else, for now, I could see the frost starting to take form on Hunter’s fur...

It would be better to head home now.
