Bring My Children Home

On October 16, 2007 my three oldest children were apprehended by Child and Family Services in Winnipeg. 1 am 34 years old. I am an Indigenous woman.  And I have been fighting to get my children back for 10 years. I currently live in Serpent River First Nation with my husband and our 7 year old daughter. My daughter has never been in care but for some reason my three boys continued to be. My oldest child has since become an adult and “aged out” of the system. My two younger boys remain in foster care and there is no need for them to be.  I am a business owner (Bea Beads), a traditional person who practices my culture, I am clean and sober and dedicated to my family.

There is nowhere in this country where someone working a full-time minimum wage job could afford to rent a two-bedroom apartment, according to an annual report released Thursday documenting the gap between wages and the cost of rental housing.
