An attractive blonde American woman called Jane Baldasare, made an announcement in the Daily Mail, she and her husband were coming to England for her to attempt to be the ␣rst person to swim the English Channel underwater. When Chris ␣rst found the article about Jane and her other record-breaking achievements, he was so excited he could hardly contain himself. ␣ere was no question in his mind, ‘he’ was going to be part of her team on that swim.

␣e then famous Billy Butlin, of Butlin’s holiday camps, had agreed to be her sponsor. He was a excellent choice with his outgoing, entertaining character and advertising skills. He’d also agreed to put up Jane and her husband Fred, in one of his hotels in Folkestone while setting up the whole, very complicated, ‘event’.

In the Lebanon

The vineyards, the mountains, the Sea, Lebanon is such a beautiful country. Only three tiny months later, after the Six-day-War, did the illusion of calm, throughout the Middle East, begin to erupt into the seething caldron of hatred and destruction that is the whole of the Middle East today.

It was on this first visit after the accident a friend came rushing to our valley with a book she desperately wanted us to read. It was supposedly a true account of ‘miracles’ being performed by an Indian Guru called Satya Sai Baba. He had a group of devotees in Nairobi, who were quite adamant that he did perform miracles, raising from the dead was documented, so making someone walk again, would be a doddle.

One of the few jobs I had, and enjoyed the most, was being part of the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Aldwych Theatre in London for a year.

Being part of that Company was a lovely experience. In repertory we played, Troilus & Cressida, Revengers Tragedy, and Bartholomew Fair. I suppose there may have been about forty of us altogether in that one company. Before they became household names were, Norman Rodway, Michael Williams, whose voice as Troilus, boomed out so musically every time he spoke, Ian Richardson, Alan Howard, Patrick Stewart and Helen Mirren.

”My head bowed, my face just above the mud I was hoping would drown me, when suddenly, without any warning, I looked up and I saw this magical scene all around me. The feeling was as though I’d stepped back in time to my childhood, into our beautiful garden I’ve described earlier.” More here....
