What are your top 10 travel destinations? Nirvana is definitely in my top ten.

Ever wonder how a cartoon comes to life? Here’s a 30-second time-lapse of one of my cartoons, from rough sketch to finished illustration. Every cartoon starts as a few messy lines before slowly taking shape with ink, color, shading, and highlights. If you had to give one life-changing tip, what would it be? Take your time and be patient with yourself. Don’t measure success with the someone else’s ruler.

Do you think everything happens for a reason? Yes, but some destinies are crispier than others.

What’s your biggest dream? Having good food, drink and people around.

What is the best purchase you have ever made? My iPad has improved my life because it lets me draw wherever I am, even when I should probably be doing something else. It’s turned random ideas into cartoons instead of forgotten thoughts, and my undo button has probably saved my artistic reputation thousands of times. At this point, I think my Apple Pencil gets more exercise than I do.

Which outdated technology do you miss the most, and why? I miss being the remote.

What is the best excuse you have heard lately? Most moms would say, if you have enough oxygen left to hold up a smartphone, you have enough oxygen to say hi to your mother!

What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?

What’s your top tip to be successful in life? Have fun but not too much fun.

List three books that have had an impact on you. Why? Shel Silverstein’s: A light in the Attic, Falling Up and Where the Sidewalk Ends. They were my first exposure to visual humor and probably one of the reasons I became a cartoonist.

What tattoo do you want and where would you put it? I would like one of my illustrations. I’d put it wherever it fits.

Who is the most confident person you know? Pet owners. Pet ownership is mostly the triumph of optimism over experience.

What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings? It’s always good to talk to someone.

Where would you go on a shopping spree? The better question is, where wouldn’t I go.

What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain. So… do you think winter is finally over?” Because answering it feels like tempting fate. In Minnesota that question usually summons at least three surprise snowstorms and one very smug April blizzard.
