GLAM. BABY. GLAM.

I remember the feeling when I got my acceptance letter into the study abroad program. I was at work—which was Jamba Juice at the time—talking to my customers as I received a vibration on my phone. I ran to the corner of the store and asked my co-workers to handle the smoothies because something important came up. Upon checking my phone I read, “Congratulations! You have been accepted into the London-University of Westminster program.” My heart sank to my stomach and a million questions started to race through my head. How was I going to cover tuition? Was it going to be that expensive? Am I going to get along with people? Can I handle being across the damn world from everyone I know? Was my mom really going to let me go all the way to Europe by myself? What about all the terrorist attacks…is this even a good idea anymore? The emotional rollercoaster struck and I found myself feeling a bit nervous within seconds.

            The following day, I called my mentor back home and told him about the news. He reassured me that I was going to love it, it was going to be fun and I needed this break.

 [Side note: my freshmen year I went to a school back home, in upstate New York. Im originally from the city, so the transition between the crazy and fast paced city to the countryside of New York was a huge change for me. The cold weather was not up my ally, the social work program was not up to my standards and I could not find myself connecting with my peers. I decided, in the middle of my freshmen year, that I was going to apply to Arizona State and if I got in I was going to go. Here I am, two years later in my junior year at ASU finding myself to be the happiest I have ever been.]
