Revelations come in all shapes and sizes.
This revelation smacked Sarah across the face and asked her for her lunch money, on a perfectly ordinary summer day.
One minute she was happy, life was simple, she wasn’t overthinking anything.
The next minute…“Uhm, hey Ukyo?”
The two were, once again sitting in her room. Well, standing. He was spotting her on the bench press, (So, she’s a bit spoiled, her father was so excited when she said she wanted to join the navy that he bought her a full weight set.)
“Hmm? Are you ready to stop?” He asked, his hands reaching out, ready to grab the weight from her.
Sarah and Ukyo’s eyes were the same color, startlingly so.
As a child, especially in Japan, she hated her eye color, she was convinced no one would have the same color as her, and that they’d stand out. Then Ukyo happened. Ugh, Ukyo keeps happening.
Right now, with about 80 pounds in her grasp, and eyes who only looked beautiful on him somehow, Sarah looked up.
He was so calm, he wasn’t smiling brightly, just, calmly. Like he was at ease, comfortable, just happy. She felt her heartbeat change, it felt like a squirrel or mouse scattered across it. That had been happening a few months now, and it typically coincided with Ukyo.
At first she thought she had high blood pressure or something and got her dad to take her to the doctor, but they said she was totally fine, nothing abnormal about her heart whatsoever.
Plenty abnormal about the boy who holds it though.
Gross, didn’t mean to think that.
Sarah lifted the barbell back up into the hooks and sat up,
Ukyo, this time instead of Ukyo happening to Sarah, Sarah happened to Ukyo.
For a solid ten seconds, he was as still as a stone statue. In a way it was funny, she almost laughed that she’d taken him by surprise, but understanding the situation she’d just put him in, and feeling the heat that slowly rose up her own face, she opted out.
“I don’t think so?” He finally answered, brows raised at her words.
“Really? I feel like we already do a lot of the same things that people do when they date.” She followed up thoughtfully.
“I mean, we never said anything about it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t.” Ukyo observed,
“Huh,” Sarah nodded, looking down at the ground, “It sounds like we’re silent dating,” Then, back up to Ukyo her eyes went, “Do you wanna date?”
Without missing a beat, Ukyo nodded, that familiar, calm little smile on his face.
